. What he has created is an opportunity for families to get a realistic idea of where their son stands in his talent level.

First i want to thank Freddy and Braves for the time they spent this weekend... it really helped the boys to see real people that truly wanted them to succeed and were willing to tell them the good the bad and the ugly.. Great job both of you...

As a parent who has chased two players, it is hard to know the right path. All players are different as all our children are different.

Everyone should have their child evaluated by an unbiased view, not your HS coach, Showcase coach, etc. They have motives we don't need to get into here but it will not be unbiased.

Freddy tells it like it is and we should thank him for it... He will tell you what you are good at and where you need to work on things.. then it is up to the player to get better.

Get the player report it will open your eyes...

    Thanks Freddy

    Thanks jd...well said about Freddy

I had several families pull me by the side and asked me why I was helping out with their kids (they knew I volunteered.) I told them there are many guys, including Mr. Cotton, whom by the way, volunteered to umpire all of the games for free, just love being on the field with a bunch of players that love the game. Shoot...that's not work: That's some of the most enjoyable times in our lives.

I tip my hat to Mr. Cotton and to Mark Tarleton (Seattle Mariners scout) who volunteer their time and expertise to help any kid asking or needing some advice, tips or adjustments. To me, that's what it's all about.

I might as well congratulate Coach Victor Bullock. Another coach that donated his time to help out...and as painful as it is for me to say, one of his teams beat my team :gun_bandana:

    showcase baseball

All of these showcases have advantages for players and the recruiting process. You have to pick the showcases that are right for you. It's great that some coaches can donate time for these events. I know as a coach that has 2 kids in college I have to work a second job on the weekends to make ends meet. If I go work a showcase or host a showcase it involves about 24 hrs of work and sometimes travel expenses. It's nice to get paid for this time and effort. In order to pay all these coaches, umpires, and field workers you have to charge an amount to cover these expenses. Plus your ability to get the scouts to these events is very important. All of these guys are helping kids they just do it in different ways. I appreciate all of them and wish they would have been around when I was playing.

Heck 29er...if I charged Freddy what I thought I was worth, he couldn't afford me. And if Freddy paid me what he thought I was worth, I would owe him.

Very good points, by the way.

    rock star

You're right Braves. You're a rock star in the baseball world. I would like you and your viewers to keep Will #6 in your prayers. He is recovering at home from a collapsed lung. He's hoping to be healthy in time for 8-mans in Dec.

Actually I think most parents want to hear the truth. I think that is part of what they're searching for. I think the question goes back to, "who delivers the message?" Personally I think it has to come from a reputable source. If your paying money for lessons or attending camps I'm not convinced you get the real skinny. I really think Freddy is on to something here.

Even if you don't like what you hear that doesn't mean you have to give it up. For some it could be a kick in the butt to step it up. For others it could send a message of just enjoy today. There may not be a tomorrow for you in baseball. Taken the right way there can be a lot of positives.

    Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Would have to doubt this!! Thru the years the parents that I have seen have all been blind to the truth and most of them know it BUT hate to have to believe it. ALL parents have hope right to the bitter end.

Dang it.....that's a blow. I emailed him yesterday and I asked about him at the workouts all weekend.

Please keep me informed. He's my Guardian Angel...and of course, my thoughts and prayers are with him

    Most People

do not want to hear the truth. They want to hear what they want to hear. And many times when they are confronted with the truth the person that is telling them the truth is no longer their friend , no longer credible , jealous of their kid etc etc.

If people were so intent on hearing the truth I would be out with Freddy on his Yacht this weekend because he would have so many people taking advantage of this he would be loaded. Freddy has been offering these evaluations for some time. This is just the first time he has really made it public on a forum like this.
