As a fan of the game it totally makes me sick what is allowed to happen at the Char-Meck schools. But there's nothing that can be done about it, it's their rules. Also something that I noticed Langston didn't make reference to was that a former Butler player (their top player going into last year) actually transferred to West Charlotte. I would like to know the real reason behind that?

I will say this, girls basketball in the Charlotte area goes through different phases. I remember it wasn't all that long ago that the better players in Charlotte went private instead of public. Now-a-days you don't hear much at all about schools like Victory Christian. Even Providence Day took a hit (especially after the departure of Barbara Nelson). All that said the amount of talent and the level of coaching in the QC is probably the highest it's ever been.

As far as the article goes, I'm sure the reigning West Regional Champs, West Charlotte, and a pretty good East Meck squad may have a say in who's the best in Charlotte this year.

BTW...TC Roberson, a school that moves up to the 4A classification next year, scrimmages both West Charlotte and Butler on Saturday. Talk about getting a preview of what it will be like for them starting in 09.

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
I can't be there Saturday, so please someone post results, thoughts and anything else that would be of interest. Especially about the ACR team, thanks.

Bigdan - I agree with some of what you say but let me add a little.

Best Team In Mecklenburg County - ever
Langston has quickly forgotten the 2005/2006 South Meck team that won a state championship. This team was led by a big low post, with one player moving on to Duke, one to Notre Dame and one to Virginia Tech (volleyball). That was a great team!

Langston titled the article "...some say..." - not me! South Meck (2005/2006) was very good and West Charlotte last season was very good!

    Transfers
What does CMS allow to happen? What would you recommend happen to high school athletes who's family decides to move across town? If someone transfers from - let's just say Mcdowell to Freedom because their family moves - what should the school district do to that player?

Transfers happen everywhere, as evidenced by the references on thisboardrocks regarding several players transferring: one to Statesville, one to Freedom and 2 to Draughn. It is more prevelant in Charlotte, since their are numerous school districts that can be considered when a parent decides to buy a new home.

I live in Union County, just 3 miles from Charlotte Mecklenburg. We considered moving this year and looked at homes in the Ardrey Kell school district, the South Meck school district, the Providence school district, the Butler school district and the Weddington school district (Union County). The funny thing is, all of the houses were within 8 miles of where I live now! Is it illegal for me to do that? Is it immoral or unethical to do that?
If I happen to have a student that plays sports - does that now make it wrong, illegal or unethical?

The article does not mention the following:
1.) Jessica Freeman, following a season ending knee injury in 2007/2008 transfered from Butler to West Charlotte.
2.) Janae Johnson, transferred 2 years ago from Butler to Providence Day. She is being recruited by Florida, Duke and several others.

A squad led by two freshmen, Jessica Freeman and Janae Johnson beat Freedom, led by an amazing Ali Ford in 2005/2006 in the state playoffs. Both of those stars are no longer at Butler and playing elsewhere!

Good players come and good players go in Charlotte. I don't know how you change it - parents move for various reasons - some to improve the personal situation of their children. How do you blame a parent for wanting to improve the personal situation of their child?

However, you can't blame Butler, as they have lost as many as they have gained via transfer.

    Expected Results
Coach Butler deserves lots of credit for what is happening at Butler. In her short tenure at Butler, they have achieved the following results:

2005/2006: SW4A tournament champs - beating the eventual State Champ (South Meck) in the conference tournament.
    2006/2007: SW4A tournament champs
2007/2008: Regular Season co - champs and SW4A tournament champs.

Butler can't boast about anything on the state level until they prove they can beat a loaded West Charlotte team. They cannot even claim the title of the best team in Charlotte, much less anything else. I thought the article gave Butler way to much credit in that regard.

I am sure Coach Butler would have preferred for that article to never have been written, as you can bet it is on a bulletin board at East Meck and West Charlotte.

Until thy prove they can beat West Charlotte, they can only brag about being the 3 - time reigning SW4A conference champ.

Oh boy, don't know if you want a TBR gathering on Saturday, j/k...

All 3 of our scrimmages are at Table Rock Middle School between 11 am and 4:30 pm. I will likely drop by Freedom first thing Saturday. I assume Thad and Amber will have some rosters available for us spectators.

Going back to your previous post...I have no objections to a parent wanting to move their kid in order to give them a better chance. I'm hoping these moves are made with academics in mind first. Maybe living in a one-school county has given myself an un-fair view on the whole thing. The whole crossing of county borders I have no problem with, it's just the constant moving from school to school within the county is something I have a hard time understanding.

All the colleges are getting rosters, but for you great TBR members, come by and say hey and I will hook you up. As long as Amber doesn't have me doing something for her.... HA

Looking forward to Saturday... What a lineup
