WOW...what an incredible day and event.

2009 NC beat 2009 VA by a score of 15-8 (might not be exact)
MVP Hitter: Walker Gourley (Eastern Wayne-ECU) 4-5, double, triple and two home runs and reached on an error, 7 rbi's
MVP Pitcher: Ethan Ogburn (Southwest Guilford-NCST) one perfect inning

2010 VA downs 2010 NC by a score of 6-5 in a great game
MVP Hitter: Eric Mayers (Hanover-U of Richmond) 2 run double
MVP Pitcher: Austin Young (Atlee) 2 innings for the save
Defensive Star: CF-Mitchell Shifflett (Cosby-UVA) ran down 2 balls hit well over his head
Pitching Note for NC team: Dale Innes (Enka) was perfect in his 2 innings of work and looked great

Folks: if you are a real baseball fan this was the place to be today. No excuses!!

I will leave the total recap to Impact Baseball but be sure to catch the games on webcast the next 2 Sunday's at 8 pm at www.whigtv.com on the Stretchlon Sports Show. Herb and Sandra of WHIG-TV make it possible for these players to be on television and the web.

Thanks to the trophy and tshirt sponsors: Capital City Baseball of Wake Forest and Telco Credit Union of Tarboro.

Many thanks to Danny Bass, Hugh McBride, Jason Mills, Dave Brown, Hank Tice, Jack Nashette and Andy Partin for helping to announce the games. A special thanks to George and Gerald for doing all the camera work.

Congrats to a job well done by the umpires: Steve Lewis, Mark Perry, Ponce Moody and Jay Williams.

Billy Godwin and the ECU staff/players were outstanding hosts and the field was in perfect shape.

I can hardly wait for next years event!!! Many many thanks to anyone who volunteered to help put on these games.

PS: On a personal note I loved my good buddy Dylan Brown hitting one out just inside the foul pole in right.

Beautiful day at ECU. Some observations on the 2009 game:

    - Bryan Bass absolutely crushed the ball all day
    - Levi Michael made a great ESPN stop on a ball hit in the hole
    - Chaz Frank just doesnt get the pub he deserves as he did well both offensively and defensively
    - Walker Gourley had a day! HR's were "no doubters" off the bat and he did it where he'll play college ball
    - There was a last minute dropout on the NC team and 2011 Adam Griffin filled in. He's the real deal. Hit a couple out in BP and had a 400ft ground rule double in the game. Bright future
    - Pitching for NC was solid but not spectacular. Ethan Ogburn had the only perfect inning. 12-13 pro scouts behind homeplate might have influenced some overthrowing
    - VA team pitching was inconsistent, but NC bats were strong
    - Every major college in NC, SC and VA had coaches there.

Well done event that should continue to grow in stature.

    Agreed

Agree Dawgswood. What a beautiful day of baseball in a great facility. Hats off to all who participated and attended. Especially pitchers who traveled a long ways knowing they would only pitch an inning or two. We appreciate your dedication.
And what can you say about the day Mr. Gourley had? 4-5 with two home runs, a triple, a double and 7 rbi in front of a strong ECU contingent. After the game he ws dubbed him Mr. November!

Thanks to Stretchy who once again volunteered his time, labor and equipment to make this a special event. I tell you, people have no idea just how much this guy does to promote prep baseball in NC. Kudos.

Hey Stretch...will there be a DVD or VHS available for purchase? I hear the guy doing the play-by-play was outstanding. Also would like to hear the interview again with Coach Dave Brown of Hopewell. Something about him being the only coach in the history of high school baseball that tore his ACL coaching third base. That was hilarious.

Stretchy is a major player in getting young men opportunities and exposure across our state. I certainly appreciate everything he does.

Wouldn't most agree that pitchers this time of year are tired. They just finished a long spring, summer and fall season. I remember last year's event did not have anybody looking "sharp"..outside of Zach White

I would agree that there was alot of tired arms out there with all the intense tournaments this fall but what I thought was impressive was the pregame BP and the infield/outfield.There was some impressive outfield arms out there.I missed the 2009 pregame but was very impressed with the 2010 class of both teams.

The event was very solid. It was super having 2 states there like that. I heard several scouts make the comment that they didn't know when they rememberd that many good players in one spot like that in a long time. 2009 NC team was just better in my opinion on the hill, and the bats were much better. 2010 was pretty even across the board. It was a very solid event. There are some good 2010 players coming up in both states.

    Shut Down Arms?

Do most people shut down pitchers for November and December or do they wait a little longer?

The play by play guy was better than Vince Scully

Yes DVD's will be available for purchase directly from the station. Anyone wanting to buy one can send me an email to [email protected] and I will forward it to the station manager.

Its good to shut down for a least 30-60 days, but I know with camps etc in Nov and early Dec it can be difficult for a junior to do it. We shut down mid Dec to mid Jan last year
