Congrats Steven, On Deck is continuing to put players into college. Goes to show how a great program is ran when coaches care more about getting players to the next level instead of taking the glory for themselves.

On Deck has an amazing amount of plaques on the wall of players they sent to the next level. The walk in area of On Deck is almost full of plaques that you can't even see the wall.

I'm sure Oriole (an ex-HS coach) believes that many HS coaches play a role in
sending their players to college, too

Exactly Bravo! 90% of them do I'd speculate like all else in the world there is that naive and selfish 10 %. Additionally, money is a huge issue, in HS athletics there is no money issue other than coaches like myself who spent hundreds of hours and hundreds of dollars of their own money marketing and selling their players to college coaches.

I agree money is a huge issue. Would you agree that big money schools and travel teams have an advantage? What about self pay teams like Dirtbags and South Charlotte Panthers? Do they have more resources to get their teams scouted and trained? What about the difference in schools like Garringer or Harding and Prov or Ardrey Kell? I know that scouts are going to go where ever the players are but are some players more advantaged?

Of course. If you have a player or players that are highly recruited all of his teammates benefit. It's the same in every sport. It's all about developing a successful program.

    Talent and work ethic

    doesnt cost you any money.

These showcase programs select very good players. Then they get them out there in front of the right people. The players should get the credit for what they earn. The showcase program should get the credit for putting them in the right venues to be seen by the right people. There are high school coaches that do a great job helping players develop. There are alot of dads that do a great job as well working with their kids. And their are showcase programs that help to develop their players. But they are not starting with very average players.

When a showcase program starts taking average players with no tryouts and then develops them into college level players then they can take credit for putting them in college. As long as they are holding tryouts and selecting the top guys in the first place lets go ahead and give the credit to the ones that actually earn the opportunity, the players.

Give the credit to the program that does a good job of getting their guys in front of the right people. Give the credit to the player for putting in the work it takes to be a player a college wants. Give the hs coach the credit for working his butt off to help develop his players. But really who cares who gets the credit as long as the kids that deserve to play past hs get that chance.
