We are in the market for an electronic scoring software. We have been looking at "Turbo Stats" for a palm pilot. Has anyone here used this program? Pros and cons?

    Thanks!

    Good Product

I've been using it for over 5 years for both travel ball and also for our high school team. I wouldn't want to do stats without it. The palm pilot can be difficult to see on sunny days.

I tried to use the Palm version of Turbo Stats once upon a time as just a fan in the stands. I personally had trouble keeping up with the game using it. I should probably try again now to see if I still feel that way. I always thought it was pricey.

For calculating stats today, I tally up the raw stats in the book by hand then put them into an Excel spreadsheet to calculate stats for the game/tournament/season.

Turbo stats on the palm works great but you have to be prepared to use it when the time comes. IF you try to enter the game data on the fly then you will get behind during the game. If you try to track pitch locations and pitch types you need to be behind the catcher and have someone tell you what pitch was thrown(unless you can tell from seeing it- cause I cant). You must be very attentive to the game and not get distracted if you want that level of data.

Once the game is going and if you have historical data on a team, you will know exactly what pitch the other teams player swung at, where they hit, what pitches they liked, etc... it is very powerful in that sense. It brings all the data about the game into one place, your palm.

I have used TurboStats for about 7 years for both school and travel baseball and softball. I am more comfortable using my paper and pencil book during the game. After the game, I enter it into Scorekeeper on my PDA, sync with my computer, and all of the stats are done. It gives you hitting, pitching, and fielding stats, and allows you to customize the stats to your needs. It would give you alot of information during games, but I just can't give up my old scorebook. I purchase the updates that Turbostats put out since they do tweak their program with each one.
