My daughter had my yearbook out from my senior year of high school. We both got a kick at the softball page.......wow!, how things have changed. I really didn't even remember that we had a softball team...lol. Couldn't help noticing,,,no face guard on batting helmets; looks like tennis shoes instead of cleats; no batting gloves; blue jeans as part of the uniform; no shin guards, helmet, or knee savers for catcher; no sliding pads; and no mask or chest protector at all for the ump. They've come a long way since 1977...........lol. Wonder if that house in the background ever got nailed.

Chuck, nice to see pictures from my alma mater. I've been trying to figure out where this field is at and if I can put a name on any of these faces, but have been unsuccessful on both accounts. I think West Lincoln was slow pitch before 1996 but I don't know when the first team period was.

You forgot to mention anything about the wooden bats they are using.

You're right Scott, I did miss the wooden bats...lol. I figured it had to be slow pitch though, judging by the batters stance, she sure don't look "down and ready" for anything fast. Not sure about the first picture, but the other two was probably somewhere in Lincolnton.......only guessing by the fans with "L" on their hats sitting over there on those state of the art bleachers, where the Home Team sign is,,,,but who knows.

Oh yea Scott, forgot to give you the names......Kathy Sain in first pic running the bases, Dianne Wilson batting in 2nd pic, and Dwighty Brown catching in 3rd one. Robin McSwain and Ruthie Miller were all conference that year.

    That's awesome

I'm not gonna lie. Those picture are pretty awesome. It is so crazy the way things have changed. I wonder why people decided to change to fastpitch. I mean, I'm glad they did because I love it so much.

I think that back in the time of these photos, no one took girls sports seriously. Real sports were boys sports at that time. Even the umpire wasn't wearing a mask in this picture, I wonder if he would have been wearing a mask if it were baseball. It is amazing to think how far girls sports have came in last 10 years alone.

Not as far as I know. As a matter of fact , if you ask a Saine, if they are related to a Sain in these parts. They will quickly point out that they are a Saine with the E.
