I agree... but that shows you where softball is going. Stadiums are like the frames around artwork.... you have to have a nice piece of art first, but a nice frame sure helps to show it off.

.....The reason that some of these schools don't have softball is BECAUSE they've satisfied the Title 9 requirement with other womens sports. I would love to see Duke, Wake, and Clemson, to name a few get fastpitch programs up and running.
Have you seen the new softball stadium/facilities at NCSU? Nice!

Perception is a big issue. Even in very liberal institutions bringing in a group that many percieve will promote an alternative lifestyle is a bring reason. These can be a nightmare for a college President. While we know most girls are there to play ball we know that often this is a huge issue in some women's sports. Tennis, rowing and some others don't have this perception. :dead-horse-fast2:

Timing is Right for Wake Forest

Ron Wellman, The AD at Wake is a supporter of softball, at least on the travel ball level. As I understand it, before becoming the AD at Wake, Mr. Wellman's daughter played on a very competitive 16U travel team in Ohio. When the Wellman's moved to Winston-Salem for the Wake AD job, I believe his daughter played for Ray's Cardinals for a summer.

The reason the timing could be right for Wake to add softball is the Wake baseball team will now play their home games at Ernie Shore Field (where the minor league Warthogs played until building a new stadium in downtown Winston-Salem opening this spring).

So this move by the Wake baseball team leaves their on campus stadium and practice facilities available for softball. Sure money would have to be spent on the conversion to softball, but they wouldn't neccessarily have to start from scratch. Just a thought................

    What are you smoking???

That's the dumbest thing I have ever seen posted on this board.....The decision to fund or not to fund a sport is based on many factors, but certainly not the road your trying to lead us down.....

Miami looked at adding a softball program several years ago, but went with women's soccer instead. They have severe space limitations for building facilities, so I would doubt they'd add it anytime in the foreseeable future.

I didn't say it was right, but I know how many people look at going to certain situations. Perception is reality. I love fastpitch softball, but many people I work with I know question the commitment we have made to our girls playing it for this any many reasons.

See BMac that's why you're you and i'm just....well me. lol
Good points, hadn't thought about that one and didn't know baseball was moving. As far as the AD goes, that's what i get for listening to second hand info. Sounds like a good opportunity for Wake. Maybe for '10? Morgan could only hope Or maybe at least what '14 for Steph? Go Demon Deacons!!
