As the keeper of all the nominations, I want to urge anyone that has not made a nomination for the Greater Charlotte Hot Stove League nominations to do so before December 31st. I am holding a lot of nominations right now, but I am amazed at some of the kids in the Mecklenburg, Union and York (SC) counties that have not been nominated yet. We are talking about some kids that are going to play for money one day that have not been nominated. If it's your son, don't be bashful, anyone can nominate, a Dad, a coach, a friend, etc.

The awards that are open for nomination are

High School Baseball Player of the Year
High School Softball Player of the Year
Youth Baseball Player of the Year (grades 6-9)
Youth Softball Player of the Year (grades 6-9)
Team of the Year (open to all ages)
York County Baseball Player of the Year

All award nomination forms are located at www.hotstovedinner.com

They can be mailed in or emailed in to me

Don't forget to go ahead and get your tickets for the dinner, they are also available online. We are ahead of pace from last year, and we sold out last year. This is such a special night and we hope you will attend.

I will be glad to answer any questions

    Thanks

    Tripp Roakes

    Hot Stove Dinner

This event is catered more to baseball than softball. Just look where it's being held at.

I want to reply to this

    Tarheel

I would venture to guess that 99.9% of all Hot Stove League Dinners don't event mention softball. Thats not the case with the event that I founded here in Charlotte. My track record of covering high school softball should clearly state that. In 57 issues of my newspaper, The South Charlotte Sports Report, we have had 9 covers that featured softball and 12 softball players have been the Female Athlete of the Week. That should show that I care very deeply about softball.

When I founded this event, I insisted with everyone involved in helping me make it happen, that we honor softball players as well and talk about softball.

If you have any questions as to how special of a night this was last year, I would love for you to speak with some of the ladies we honored, Constance Orr, Kalie Lang, Erin Kayton and Lexi Davis. ( i guess you have heard of them) Maybe ask them how cool it was to sit at an autograph table and have people ask them for their autograph at this event or to be recognized to a sold out crowd as the best of the best in a great area for softball.

As for the location of the event, at this time I am unaware of a softball only indoor facility that can host 300-400 people in a banquet setting. In fact, unless, I want to move this to an Uptown High dollar hotel or Ballantyne, I don't know of another good place to hold it. If you are aware of one in this area, please let me know so I can go by and meet the owners and learn more about the folks training there.

I want to personally invite you to the dinner, on my nickel, so you can come and evaluate my commitment to softball on your own. A Free Prime Rib and Chicken Parmesan dinner with Penne Pasta, Mashed Potatoes, Sauteed Vegtables, rolls, Apple Pie and drinks, all for you. Please give me a call, 704-906-5466 or post your name and # here and I will send you that free invite.

Hope to see you there and let you see this first class event firsthand and the commitment I personally have to both baseball and softball.

    Tarheelfan1:

Tripp and South Charlotte Sports Report are great advocates of Softball in the South Charlotte area. They ran a feature on my 8U Recreation softball team, as well as many stories on local softball players. He also ran a feature on my other daughter - 8 years old at the time. I challenge you to find another publication that runs a picture on an 8U Recreation team or an 8 year old athlete.

If you need proof - ask the Charlotte Blaze, MSA Cobras, Weddington Outlaws, Butler Bulldogs, Weddington Warriors, etc... The list goes on and on.

Anyone can run a story on a state champion and scholarship athlete - no one runs stories on local rec teams other than South Charlotte Sports Report. You should see the looks on the faces of 7 and 8 year old girls when they see their picture in the paper.

Don't kill the main source of media support for softball in the South Charlotte area.

So Tripp, if I say something negative about your event (however, the responses from the people that went last year were outstanding) can you offer the same "nickel" to me :clapclap:

    LOL :)

I am disapointed that the poster has yet to post his name and # so I could formally invite him/her.....

The list of nominees is so impressive in both baseball and softball so far. Even I could take a team of the nominees and win a state title in baseball or softball with these kids! There are a lot more players that need to be nominated. I know Weddington has some good ones and we havent heard from them and Butler has a few good ones still to be nominated. As wonderful as Constance was, I know she had help out there last spring.

The tough awards to pick from our the youth players of the year, (grades 7-9) Hope to get more of those nominations in before the 31st.
