    Well....

I think the original intention of this thread has long ago left the room....

I applaud your enthusiasm and passion to " help the coaches of NC based colleges and universities discover the talent available within the state of NC."

The original premise of the thread was why certain institutions don't offer softball as a sport. Based on the comments posted, we have determined that it is either due to:

    1. Money
    2. Title 9
    3. Diversity of the life styles of the player pool
    4. Lack of funding of scholarships

Which one did we decide it was.... I forget....

As for the grass roots attempt to contribute $$ to the schools in need..
( by the way, which one's are they, and how do we determine that?)

I am sure they will take your money....but it will not become part of the funding of athletic scholarships. I am sure everyone understands that there are budgets created years ahead to fund a programs athletic scholarships. This is part of the function the booster clubs perform.

While the NCAA sets maximum limits as too how many scholarship equivilants are available per sport, the schools and sometimes the conferences actually reduce the limits. The reasons why vary from school to school, and sometimes it is not due to lack of money. Some conferences limit equivilants among sports for competitive reasons.
They have maximum and minimum guidelines.

All that being said..... Let's say we actually collect the $90,000.00 spoken about in an above post.

Who is gonna manage this money, and who is gonna determine how it is
distributed?? Everyone that contributes is gonna have an opinion as to who is deserving and who is not. Lack of control creates opportunity.
    Good luck with that..

NC softball is the strongest it has ever been. We are finally catching up with the rest of the country. Competition among coaches for the top players is cut throat.

If your not getting seen, take a long look in the mirror, and ask yourself
    why?

    1. grades?
    2. commitment to the sport?
    3. attending camps of the schools you want to attend?
    4. true assessment of your skill level?
    5. does the coach know who you are?

While baseball and softball take different paths to showcase their kids,
don't let a perceived lack of showcase events in softball impact your recruitment. Personally I think there are plenty.

The truely top players in NC are getting seen and for the most part, being recruited by NC Universities and Colleges. We let some slip away every now and then. (Ashton Ward, Kelly Grieve, Nikki Prier come to mind quickly)

So after all this.....We are right back where we started...

How do we get Duke, Wake Forest, UNC-A, Davidson, to start softball programs...
    (sorry if I missed anyone)

He is right about violating NCAA rules. My thought is not only about the UNC systems school. If more was donated to softball programs through out the schools in the state scholaships, facilities, equipment and everything could be upgraded. Improve these and other schools feel like they have to get in for a peice of the pie.

Facilities at some oft he D2 schools really could be upgraded in North Carolina. Money going to the coaches there would get attention to bring more into softball.

I'll answer your second two questions first... nuke 'em and nobody can sing like the "King" anymore, therefore proving that he's dead!

Can Be More to it Than Just Giving the Money

Heard this from a friend who has a daughter who plays at a D1 school in NC. I think I have the facts correct.

This school had a private donor who wanted to donate the all funds needed to build the softball team a state of the art indoor batting/practice facility. However when the idea was taken to the school trustees, it was turned down. The reason,............the location where the new facility would be built was on part of the Frisbee golf course that is near the existing softball complex.

    The donor said never mind.

    Thought

What makes you think if you were able to give all this money that the schools would chose NC recruits only?

I'm not really looking to just add scholarships to North Carolina girls. I am referring to adding to the North Carolina programs. I agree that many of the state's programs over look our players. Hopefully we will developing our own coaches in the next few years so they are not imported.
