I know of at least three who played at ECU from the Raleigh area. Eva Herron, Enloe; Allison Monce, Cary; Jessica Potter, Sanderson.

Maybe she can't recruit them now that Coach Papa and Coach Navas seem to be looking local. And, of course, UNC-W loading up from our area with Carly Hughes, Rachael Sawyer, Sammie Lisowsky, Jenn Ladd, Amanda Davenport, Katie Kisner, and last, but definitely not least, Kelsey Eddinger.

Breanna Brown at UNC-CH. Ali Burr, Landon Warren, Morgan Barbour at NC State. Edit: Toni Ann Williford will kill me, I forgot her.

I know I missed some. I can't remember the player's name from Henderson that is at UNC-CH.

Not to mention all the time that Donna Papa, Beverly Smith and Lisa Navas spend working with our local kids! That counts big time!!

Edit: Didn't mention Peace but Charlie spends a lot of time working with our local kids, also! And everyone knows where Peace was when he started there. It has come a long way!! I can't wait for this season!!

UNC currently has 7 from NC on their roster and next year should have 9 or 10.

.....I respect what your opinion phreak. But here we go.....geez brother!, UNC, and NCSU and UNCW took ALL of the NC girls. ECUs recruiting of NC girls sucks period. If you were the AD at ECU and you heard from your softball coach the same "words" that you just posted, as a reason for signing a couple of kids from way out west, and that the other in-state schools got the NC prospects, you'd fire the coach and find one that would not let the talent in your own back yard go somewhere else. Especially given that ECUs softball team under Kee has been average at best. I could see a valid arguement in favor of recruiting out of state if your team was winning and getting better from the the "out west" recruits. But, sorry, thats not the case.

Windy, of the four schools you listed, UNC-A is the only state supported school with what most consider an affordable cost of attending. An athlete at "Dook", Wake or Davidson, who is receiving a 50% scholarship, is still paying way more than a student getting no aid at any of the state supported schools. To fund 12 schollys at say, Davidson, it would cost $516,000.00 per year!
The drawback at UNC-A is there really isn't a big revenue sport there. Basketball may cover some of the athletic costs, buy not all. I have been told that a certain alumnus, who is now in professional sports, writes a check each year to make up any shortfalls. This person has my utmost respect cause he ain't making Kobe or A-Rod money! UNC-A is also a small school with only about 3500 students, therefor having a limited alumni base. All that being said, UNC-A could be the most likely school to start up a new softball program here in NC. They do have a club team already in place, which gives it a starting point. I would imagine the biggest factor would be consistent funding. This brings us back to the original question... and the answer is $$$$$$$!

It's ALWAYS about the money but if they really wanted a team the money would not be the problem!

I wonder if anyone has seriously approached the new Duke AD about it.

How did State get a team? Maybe someone needs to follow their lead.
