I'm sure some of you have seen the thing on ESPN about the rural Fla. community where so many great running backs have come from. True story... the kids there go out in the fields and catch wild rabbits with their hands. The rabbits don't particularly want to be caught since they end up as someone's supper! The rabbits run fast, darting in and out of cover, and the boys are dead on their tails. It's pretty awesome and a helluva training program!

Hey Plate... like I heard someone say after they heard someone say when talking about that great minds think alike the first person said in response to what he had heard the second person say that that was also true for really dumb people too. I'm sure we both represent what the second person said more than what the first person said in response to what the second person was saying... it's all perfectly clear, don't you think?

Oh the party of the first part and party of the second part, discussing the actions pf the party of the thrid part. I response to the party of the second part understanding the party of the third part overseeing the party of the first part which overrules the party of the second part discussion of the party of the third part. 100% on board. Like showcase vs showcase.

G-man. That rural town is Poughkepsee (sp?) Fla. I interviewed for a teaching job there, many years ago. The story about the kids chasing the rabbits? Completely true, I've seen it. Kids from 3 years old thru 19 years. They're laughing and screaming, just having a total blast.
    These kids ARE fast!

    Running Training

Dude this is not to much off the mark. Why? As a 19y/o I did just this. Lived out in West Texas. Worked for a man named Monroe Holiday. Mr Holiday ran, pardon the pun, a business that provided Jack Rabbits for training Grey Hounds.

As I was told, the Grey Hounds would chase them down. That little thing running around the circular course was a rabbit. The dogs would run after it. They trained the Grey Hounds to chase after the mechanical rabbit by using live rabbits. Catch and kill I suppose.

To catch a Jack Rabbit you did this at night. ALL night! We would jump off of "rigs" as Monroe would say and catch them. Run after them ALL NIGHT LONG! This is not a joke. We really did just this.

All night running after Jack Rabbits. They can run. But they get tired.

You want to hear more about this PM me and I will tell you some stories.

    Books

I believe it is Michael Barnes who has written or co-written several books on agility and speed training. Part of the book I read was on general training techniques for any sport and then he had a chapter devoted to each of 10-15 different sports. I believe he works with the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado??? Heard him as a speaker also and he was AWESOME. Not a lot of equipment requirements and most could be done by the athlete on his/her own. If I can find the book, I'll give you the title.

Glove, I bet when you jumped off the "rig" and ol' Mister rattle tail no-shoulders was nearby, you found a gear you didn't know you had! I imagine it was a blast!
These days, the only "bunnies" I'd like to chase are... uh... the two legged kind and I'm too old and out of shape to be any kind of threat to their population... alas, speed is wasted on the youth
