Or that East Burke may be good enough to be able to play the spoiler role this year

I've seen EB play and they are very well coached and the kids play their hearts out. Look for them to pick up a few wins in the conference on desire. They are not an easy night at the gymnasium.

Hope everyone has a peaceful and joyous Christmas. May God bless you all.

If EB comes out every night like they did against Draughn; they will win some games that everyone expects them to loose!

    Yes -you are wrong.
The New Conference looks like this: So with only 3--4A teams the NW4A Conference we know is History.

    CONFERENCE 16 (3, combination 3A/4A)
    Watauga-4A
    Alexander Central-4A
    South Caldwell- 4A
    Hickory-3A
    St. Stephens-3-A
    Fred T. Foard-3A
    Hibriten-3A

btw- I do agree with some posts that there are teams that can play the spoiler to FHS this year, they will have to be very focused each night...BUT with the common opponents we have seen (scores with this year like Forestview, Roberson) they should be favored in everygame between now and the playoffs.

I heard it is still gonna be the northwestern conference. It has had many different schools over the many years. Shoot it was there when I was in school and that was over 30 years ago

As for Freedom they will definatly be the favorite against everyone in the conference this year. Tning is they have to do it this year so they will feel little pressure. At least we can hope they do. LOL just kiddin. good luck to you guys

Like dribbles explained the conference alignment in regards to classifications will be different. For name sake they may keep the "Northwestern" name but in reality losing the core 3 (Freedom, McDowell, East Burke) pretty much breaks down the tradition of the conference.

This got me thinking. Who were some of the real original Northwestern Conference members. I was trying to remember some from the 60s and 70s.
Seems like they were: Lenoir, Hudson, Watagua, Valdese, Taylorsville or
Alexander, ect. Had to be a high school in Morganton then too. I'm just guessing here but I think I saw a thread once that had the old conferences listed. wish I had saved it. very intresting

Late 70's early 80's the northwestern conference was 3A. There was a western 4A conference at the same time. The nchsaa web site has all the old conferences listed on it.
