    Just so everyone knows-

I have been presented with a great opportunity to be a assistant coach at the collegiate level and work for Coach Williams and a wonderful institution like Mars Hill College. The timing is not good , but some times you just have to take a chance. I would've much rather waited for the fall season and finished basketball and this softball season but I decided to make the move at this time. The Freedom Softball team is very mature and talented and will be fine during the upcoming season, I look for special things from them this year. I have enjoyed my time here at Freedom and it's been very special to be a part of something like we have here now. Softball was a laughing joke at the school, but with a little work and a ton of talented players we built a conference contender in a short time.

I appreciate all of you who have supported our program and enjoyed meeting a lot of TBR posters and hope to continue our friendships. I'm sure I will see everyone on the ball field this spring for high school and this summer for travel ball.

    Thanks
    Thad

We're working on the travel ball part right now. There are some rules as to who I can coach depending on where they live. The Sun Devils will stay intact and continue on as a solid travel ball team.

Hope your family is well and I'm very sorry for your loss here recently.

Hate to say it Thad but to me you're making a mistake, unless they are giving you a lot more money than most coaches get. You have taken a bottom of the barrel program and turned it into a very respectable one. something several other coaches there couldn't do. College softball at the level you are going to is not that big of a deal. You have more fans at 1 of your high school games than you will have in 5 of the college games and no way will you get the satisfaction of developing the young talent like you do in high school. If I had the opportunity to coach high school or college unless the money was substantial I would definatly go the high school route. In my opinion your taking a step back. Either way I wish you all the luck. You have done a great job at Freedom

    Congrats to Thad!!!!!!!...................

.....Hey brother, I'm sure you'll rock at Mars Hill. Don't pay any attention to the BS from the TBR naysayers. If your value sucked and was worthless nobody would be casting stones and slinging snot about your decision.
I wish you the very best!

scfan, you make some very good points. I believe the East Burke softball coach left a head coaching position at Montreat college to return to high school coaching and that may be why.

    Thad,

Congratulations to you on a well-deserved tenure as Freedom's coach and you do deserve the opportunity you've accepted at MHC. I watched Jackie Storer coach the year before you came aboard (when I worked for The News Herald) and believe me, you were the best thing that ever happened to Freedom Softball. To not only win the elusive conference games (lost all 54 prior to you being hired) to getting to the second round of the state playoffs, shows you knew what you were doing and that the players believe(d) in your coaching abilities. Good Luck to you at MHC and may your successes follow you wherever you go.

By the way, dont judge all of us McDowell folk from choice words from Tony. He sometimes says things that doesnt have alot of thought to it, kinda like the time on the Politics forum he said that he supports Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez (who has a hatred for the United States) because he stood up to the USA. He's fun at a ball game, though.

Anyways, best wishes for a successful career as a MHC Mountain Lion!

    Jon

It will be interesting to see who the new coach will be... Is Freedom going to stay within or look outside for the new coach like they do for basketball or football. There are some qualified within the system. food for thought!

    Great News

Congratulations Thad. You did a great job at FHS, and I am sure you will do equally as well at Mars Hill. Nice getting to know you at a tournament in Kings Mountain several years ago.
