If you could change anything in HS baseball

...what would you change?

I would have all home games with both JV and Varsity playing. JV's would start at 4 and would have a time limit to allow Varsity to start at 7.

I would make a rule that all head coaches can not coach 3rd base. (not really sure why that bothers me, but I would prefer to see them in the dugout giving feedback to his players.)

 

I would like to see rules inforced on the coaches that break them and also higher academic standards for the players.

 

Most HS coaches will be on third, they just want to make sure they are making the calls and people see them in charge.

Higher academic for all sports would be nice!

 

Cold is for football

HS Baseball season played in fall and Football in the winter.

 

Amen to that strechlon. I'd also like to see the re-entry rule dumped, and DH only for the pitcher. I know it is to get more kids involved but come on, that's rec league. I would also like to see some better form of pitching limitations and a surefire way to keep up with them. Finally, I'd like for mounds and backstops to be uniform. Some schools have a flat mound(Louisburg High) and some have Mt. St. Helens(Sorry Coach Evans, I know, it's the way the field slopes.)
Generally though here in triangle, I loke our guys we have coaching. Not only are they good baseball coaches, they're even better people and role models.

 

High School Changes

As with all high school sports, I would like to see fewer teams in the playoffs.

Reentry rule should be killed.

 

I would like to see the following:

• Deep warning tracks in all outfields...just some gravel in lieu of the grass would make it a lot safer for the players
• More consistent effort to prepare the playing surface for competition....eliminating that big hole in front of the rubber and batters boxes that aren't dug out so bad. Just filling them with sandy dirt and leveling that off is worse than leaving it alone.
• No all-dirt infields allowed for competition

While many schools have fine facilities, there are many that fall short. I know budgets are tight, but a coach who wants to have a great ballfield can make it happen if an effort is sustained over time and he enlists the help of parents & sponsors ....and the players can do some work, too.

 

I would like to see:

• 7 inning games for JV and 9 inning games for varsity
• Get rid of the re-entry rule
• DH for the pitcher only
• Play real baseball rules

 

why no re-entry

I am not close to the HS game.......please explain why you wish to take away the re-entry rule.

also what about banning metal bats?

 

-Academic standards raised to minimum 2.5 gpa...kids dont realize that the GPA can help them get into college as much as the SAT/ACT score
-I think the playoff system is fine and the addition of wildcard teams is good but go back to where just the top 2 or 3 made the playoffs and draw wildcard teams from there
-I like the idea about JV being 7 innings and varsity 9. It would make coaches use more pitchers instead of just using their stud for all 7. It would make the 8th and 9th very exciting innings if you do not have a good bullpen.
