Hey, I need some help from you experienced coachs, my team will be a 2nd year 14U team and will move up in the fall and want to start playing showcase tournaments. I would like some input on which showcase tournaments are the best to play in. With the economy the way it is, I would hate to play in a showcase tournament that does not help anyone out, I don't want to waste my girls time and money that they worked hard to raise. I have heard ASA has the best showcase tournaments and brings in a lot of college scouts. Thanks in advance.

Something really rewarding as a team: attend a week-long camper clinic at one of the universities. UNC-CH put on at least one last year. They had a number of coaches from other universities assisting with the clinic. Great instruction, great team bonding experience. I believe Campbell also holds a camp like this. Others probably do also but UNC-CH is the only one I've been to as an observer. The other ones are probably good, also, but the UNC camp is super. I won't try to name the visiting coaches for fear of leaving one out but even if it was just Coaches Donna Papa and Beverly Smith it would be worth every dime.

Real showcases are great also but why not go to the coaches instead of them coming to you sometimes?

Edit: Last year they had an end-of-camp competition that consisted of about 4, maybe 5, teams made up of campers. If memory serves me well, it covered 2 days. Played on the same fields the Tarheels play on.

Edit 2: 8 of the 17 players on the UNC roster are from NC!!

....good advice phreak. Tarheel blue.com, Gopack.com, etc. for info.
    I think a 4 day overnight/meals/instruction/scrimmages runs like $350ish.
    The kids love it!

FYI: ........a college coach is VERY limited to what they can and cannot do in recruiting, especially when a kid is 14. BUT, the coach can reply to a kid by email if the kid sends a request for camp information. This is a perfect opportunity for a player to show her interest in a coach/program.
When the coach replies to the kid with info, then the kid can reply back.
I'm not good at math but I can figure out that 4 emails have transfered, and all are NCAA legal.

    Cardinal Tournaments

The Cardinal showcase tournaments (there are 3 or 4) are local and always draw around 50 college coaches and a ton of teams. I would also consider the Hot Times in Florence, SC.

mama duck is right, play ASA, ken baily puts on some great tournaments in the south carolina area. sometimes the fields at florence could be better, but at it worst, they're better than most around here. btw, if you play the lower fields, be ready for a rock hard infield, and slapping the ball down hard puts the ball so high that most times, you're at first before a throw can be made. been there, done that.
