If you are going to do it.... speaking from personal experience... 90-99% of it will be done yourself. There are a few out there who will assist but you can never count on them for your entre'. You have to raise the food, harvest it and prepare the meal.. then hope a college coach likes what you are serving.

Nobody is going to just be seen...

Kacey and Kayla Curlee are very coachable and fun to work with. However there is one more that has been over looked Taylor Beam pitcher,2nd and outfield. Playing softball at the college level has been her dream since she was nine yrs old, infact it was the only sport she played. It's sad to see the disappointment in her because her dream hasn't came true. She is a very hard worker and even goes to the gym everyday to keep herself in shape without anyone telling her to. This is a young lady that truly LOVES softball from the bottom of her heart. Taylor Beam is 2009

Ok i won't try to throw too much gas on the smoldering blaze but i will say this. Self promotion is the key. Sheri Kempf had a clinic on recruiting at North Forsyth a couple of years ago and she said it was important that the girls do the calling, emailing, and talking. Colleges do not want to talk to the parents or anyone else (well except coaches some) but the player. Good, bad, or otherwise mom and dad will not be able to help once they get to school so the coach wants to know that the kid can take care of herself. We were told after we moved Ashley in to ABSOLUTELY not come back on campus until parents weekend. Same thing about carrying their own eqiupment.
Now as far as kids "under" the radar, unfortunately some have been entrapped by a particular school. I.e. Suzie has grown up wanting to play for "big blue". Suzie has some real skills and can play D1 ball. Everything is in order (school wise) and she has been at every camp since she was 10. "big blue" has Suzie as their #6 recruit at that position. they will string Suzie along until their 1234& 5 recruits have turned them down. Unfortunately recruit #5 says yes 2 weeks before N.L.I. signing. Now Suzie has been waiting and hoping for "big blue" and turned down offers from smaller D1 and big D11s. Oops, they've moved on, can't go back now and Suzie hasn't really shown interest in anyone else. Slipped through the cracks w/ no where to go. Seen very talented kids fall into this hole and end up somewhere they don't really want to be. A school wants to know that they are first on YOUR list. Visit, visit, visit, Dad may have grown up a State fan but they may not be the fit for your dd. Besides we're still dads, you can be a fan of 2 teams.

You right Sammy the players should get the ball rolling and the coaches can then help there players getting them in the right events. Like you said vist vist vist and you will find were you fit in. Don't go there to just play ball you have to be there for 4 years so be happy.

Don't tell anyone "no" until you have a "yes" in your pocket... should be number one rule when being recruited.

    Don't overlook club ball

If there are players who have been overlooked and therefore not looking at scholarship money I would suggest looking into club ball. The schools I'm aware of have very competitive schedules. Just to name a few there is NC State, UNC-W, UNC-CH, ECU, Duke, Clemson, Georgia, Florida State, Princeton, Maryland, etc. UNC-G doesn't have a club team but I've talked with quite a few girls over the past year or so that would like to start one there.

Don't get the impression that club ball is not competitive. There are a number of players that either played or could have played Division ball but chose not to because of schedule conflicts or workload or other reasons.

Your DD owes it to herself to at least check it out. It's a lot more rewarding than you would think. I don't know the details but I believe the school gives them a certain amount of money for the team. The team also does a number of charitable functions also. Among other things that make it a very wholesome experience. Check it out!!

....Parkdaddy and Storm know what they're talking about. I'd like to point out that an "official visit" of a college is limited to 5.
    "Unofficial visits" are unlimited.

We had a kid on our team that was solid as a rock no matter where the coach played her. She narrowed her school choices. When those schools were no longer in the "student athlete" equation, she chose the best academical setting for her education.
I'm sure she shed a tear or two, but she'll be fine.
Maybe she was overlooked in athletics, but she won't be overlooked in Nuclear Physics! GPA....4.9.

Congrats to Jesse Jones, West Johnston, CF Storm, NCSU

I don't think she shed any tears. With a 4.9 GPA there is nothing to cry about. Besides, I think she has found a new love--Ultimate Frisbee!!

I agree also. Taylor is a rock solid softball player that can play several positions. Hussles every bit of the way. I really don't see how Taylor can be overlook. I will predict that by the end of Taylor's senior year, her dream will come true.
