I really figured after we played both teams that Mcdowell would win this one. They did the same thing to Freedom they did to us and that is shut down the offense. Mcdowells defense is outstanding

    thanks

Thanks to the Watauga fans for their support of the kids who performed at half time Friday night at ACHS. One of our elementary school's PE club performed on Unicycles. I thought they were fantastic and the crowd was standing and cheering on both sides of the court.

And (Unfortunately) our JV girls lost to a good team on an UNBELIEVABLE shot from half court with 1.1 secs remaining. WOW...

    Stats

Saw this stat from Mcdowell / Freedom:

    Free Throws:
    Mcdowell - 28 for 42
    Freedom - 8 for 11

McDowell must have really committed to the inside game and Freedom must have struggled defending it.

I'm suprised this stat hasn't already been brought up (or criticized) in the conversation. The difference in the foul shooting is directly related in the style of play. Yes McDowell makes an effort every time in getting the ball inside because obvioulsly that is our strength. Dribble penetration also contributes to the number of times we get to the line as well. To be honest Freedom defended the post better than they did at the Christmas Tourney. Coach Fox threw in some zone at different times. Our guards did a better job of moving the ball around in the zone.

Meanwhile Freedom, a team who does not feature a post presence, they basically run different variations of motion... alot of it to create for Ali. As a result they rely on the jump shot or the drive and kick-out. That obviously will limit the number of times that contact will be made. Dribbles said in an earlier post that he wanted Freedom to go at the tempo that they used earlier in the year. I think you can credit the McDowell defense at disrupting any chances of Freedom running.

Because if a FHS Fan brought it up , everyone would say they were whining...but You have to agree if you are were the coach and the other team shoots 30 more free throws than you- that U would question it...in last yrs 2 pt loss --McDowell shot 28 more FT's than Freedom...they have to cut down that stat or you can't beat anyone thats decent.
Dan- not to have this taken wrong but in your yrs watchin NW4A have you ever seen anyone draw as much defensive attention as Ford? The girl on her is oblivious to anything else and I don't think I have seen that.

No...I have never seen a player require as much defensive detail as what your daughter requires...but as far as I'm concerned whatever it takes to win is what's needed to be done. That said, I remember other great Freedom players over the years that required the attention of everyone. One in particular that I'm thinking of led her team to an eventual State Championship.

Here's my question...why has Ali, a player who I would say is in great physical condition...why can't she use that to her advantage in the 4th quarter and take over the game against her arch rival?

BTW, in the past couple years it's been the case for us that whoever defends Ali is doing that at such intensity that maybe it sacrifices their offense. In friday's game, that wasn't the case. The young lady who spent a majority of the night defending Ford was at equal footing in the scoring column...

Courage is FEAR, that said it's PRAYERS.
She sure did when they came to ACR. If she didn't take over in the 4th ACR would have defeated them as well.
