Best thing to do there is talk to Stephon. The workouts involve the mental aspect as well as the physical. They're tough workouts and Stephon has a way of making one aware of strength they didn't know they had. From what I have observed he starts at the individual's current level and it moves up from there. You will know after you talk with him if it's what you want. Again, it's more than physical.

    To young?

No, I do not think she is too young. The only way to find out is to get her with these guys and see how she handles it. I can tell you their workouts are very intense. I also know several girls that play for a local TB team that have been working with a personal trainer for awhile. Most of them are a little younger than your DD.

Great post Phreak, I agree about the mental part as well.

Trooper, Get your DD in the clinic at Grand Slam this coming weekend.
You can also stay and watch for yourself and what Stephon does.

    You can't go wrong there!!

I always value your opinion Phreak. #24 says lets get together and test your lighter is better theory.
I strongly urge all the girls I work with to get stronger. Most of them are older and work with personel trainers or strength coaches. I don't suggest the kids swing heavier bats just for the sake of swinging a heavier bat.
There is a method to the madness, as the kids get bigger, stronger and quicker, they can handle a little more bat. Most actually prefer it and do it on their on.
I agree that a 27 oz bat would be unusual for most batters, but as #24 developed more strength and quickness, she was able to handle more bat. As I stated before bat size and weight is realative, as they get bigger and stronger they can handle more. Years ago, -12 and -12.5 bats were common at the highest levels of play, it seems to me that you see more -8's and -9's now. Maybe a trend ?

Hey coach, I agree with what you say. Next week at my DD's hitting instruction she was thinking about using a 27 oz bat. The only problem is, it may weigh more then her.:jester:

interesting reading! In baseball there isn't really any choice in bat weights when it comes to metal... -3 is about all there is.
Wood bats do vary and it is interesting to see the variations that the pro guys use. With just a few exceptions, the major factors the big boys look at are number one, bat speed and two, bat control. Both allow the batter to wait until the last possible moment to make their decision to swing and to deliver the most power to the ball. I remember reading that both Bonds and Griffey Jr. used the lightest possible bat at the length they prefered. On the other hand, some of the "old school" sluggers used bats up to 48 oz's!
It really comes down to what is comfortable, and works in game situations, for each individual player. As said earlier, the most expensive bat will not make you a better hitter It will though, make DD (desperate dad) poorer!

only if they back the mound up to about sixty feet... the top pitchers are already dominant enough!
