I think travel ball shouldn't be started until that child has participated in (or tried out for) middle school baseball. I started earlier then that, and I'm glad I did. But it did shoot out alot of social life. I wouldn't change my choice but often wonder, 'what if'. But IMO waiting till middle school gives the kid a chance to be a kid, and love the game. And it gives a kid a chance to see what serious baseball is about. I think you should let your kid play a season (a summer/fall season) of travel ball, then ask them to take a season off, see which one they like better. And pursue it. JMO. Not being a father, this isn't a subject I specialize in. Just my 2 cents.

Your opinion on this subject carries more weight than a parent's opinion.

Maybe this is an area where the baseball world needs to follow softball. Most of our major associations have started to actually schedule a time with no games for a large fellowship to be held so that all teams or individuals that want may attend. It is great to have that happen.

Nobody has tried to answer the orginal question! So I would guess and believe the answer is NO!
I wasn't trying to debate travel good or bad. JUST is it possible to play Tourn. on Friday evening and Saturday. Answer is NO?
I will not put Ball before Church, but would like to play in some tournaments. Not attempting to play a major league schedule.
I know some of you high school coachs are attempting to put together and monitor teams as early as 8 and 9.

As previously posted: : "To answer your question, there is no way to start a large tourney on Friday night and finish it on Sunday late afternoon without playing on Sunday morning."

    Good question

Having had a son that started years ago at this age and played all travel till he 15, then HS, summer/fall in some form or another. We scheduled weekends out for the season as a team. Did not play every weekend. And there are many places of worship in this country that you can visit. Other days of the week. Many options. Great country we live in.

Need to look at the teams. Many coaches rotate players most will work with you. Good luck.

You are correct. Parents need to real take a look at the team, coaches and even other parents. Talk with their kid and see what is a good fit. There are way to many surgeries out there. Good teams are sometimes hard to find and even harder to keep together.

Thanks for the advice, but we are not interested in changing churchs to play ball. I believe my question has been answered.
Thanks for all the advice. And you are right it is a great country we live in. I believe it got even better this week. Now there is a debate. ha
