I don't think I'm the only one who feels like this has been the longest off season EVER. Dust off the lawn chairs. Fill the trunk with blankets. Count down to the first pitch.

Walters State: 4 days, 22 hours, 22 mins. Forecast 55 and sunny.
UNC Charlotte: 24 days, 1 hour 22 mins.

This has been the longest offseason for our family since we started doing this thirteen years ago. My son had Tommy John surgery sixteen months ago. We have been in offseason for two entire seasons. Cannot wait until opening day.

    Yes and no for me.....

I am excited about baseball almost being here again but it may be my last season watching my son play the game so in some ways I regret the high school season that is coming up. My son Paul is a senior pitcher at Greenville Rose and this may be his last season playing the game. His brother Scott graduated from Rose in '08 and his baseball playing days are over.

They both have taken me for a wild ride. It has been going on for me since tee ball some 14-15 years ago. The Little League days and All Star trips were great, the Babe Ruth days were awesome including watching Paul win the district, state and Southeast regional championship games and pitch a shutout in the Babe Ruth World Series back in '06 and then to top everything, watching the boys' and their Rose teammates win the 4A NC State Championship last May against Ardrey Kell.

Everything must come to an end but dang if I am ready for baseball to be over, at least as a parent watching his kids play the game. They have grown up so fast and watching them mature into young men has been fascinating but at the same time, it makes me realize that things don't last forever. I guess in a way, it makes me face my own mortality (or maybe turning 50 has done that to me).

All I can say is if you have kids still playing baseball, enjoy every second of it because it goes by oh so fast.

Oh so true! The fact that you have been through it one time does not help slow down the second time....I hope you're smelling the roses.

My off-season just got longer. My oldest is a junior in college and has decided to redshirt this year. I was selfish and didn't want him to do it because he was going to start and I'm ready to watch some baseball. I now think he has made the right choice. He has always been young for his grade ( Sept 22 Birthday). I tried to get him to red-shirt his freshman year but when he found out he would start at junior college he wouldn't hear of it. His reasoning is to lift hard and work on getting faster without having to lift light because he has a game that day. He wants his last 2 years of college baseball to be his best ever just in case he has a shot to keep playing. It will also take him 3 years to finish his degree so he would be at school anyway. This way though he will get baseball money all 3 years. That is a real plus. We will just pray that it works out best for him.

I do have an 8 year old who will be playing so I will get a little baseball fix. I will have to watch alot of high school games too.

With the Phillies winning the World Series and our area getting the MLB Channel, things could be worse, BUT, I am still counting the days til the first game of HS Baseball. SM's first game is scheduled for March 2!
