.....Rocky Mount at JH Rose. Both defending state champs. Generally some of the best baseball in the east. The four years that my son played at RM, his team went 0-2,1-1,1-1,2-0 vs. Rose to finish dead even with the Rampants. This is such a great home & home every year. The ONE thing that RM baseball can count on every year is that Rose will bring it. They have such a good program over there. This year will be no different. They start with two very talented pitchers, Tanner Merritt and Paul McIntosh. Behind them will be the twin Deters towers(6'6"), one a LHP, one a RHP. Several jrs. will help solidify the mound duties. And, as always, Rose will have some hitting. The power will likely this year come from Jr. Chase McDonald. Chase is a straight behemoth. I've watched him a couple of times, and he will likely be the next in a line of home run guys that seem to dwell in Greenville. I don't know what they have defensively, but I'm sure Diesel could expound on that aspect. RM will counter with some quality mound guys of their own. Hobbs Johnson and Benton Moss will hold their own against anyone. They'll be backed up by Parker Helms, Dillon Cockrell, and Nick Hahula. Brian Goodwin and Ben Fish anchor the offense with several returnees helping. I just don't see how there can be a better game than this on opening day.

    No Doubt

This is one of the best match ups that I have seen in a while - Brian Goodwin and Ben Fish alone are worth the price of admission.

Oh, so you've turned into the pot in order to call the kettle black? Along with being the UPS(ultimate pot stirrer), you and Grayben take the cake for hit-n-run posts! :rockon2:

To answer Southern1, Defensively, solid around the horn and in the outfield. Big ?? seems to be who will start at SS, with 2 very viable players battling for starting rights - either one a starter on anyone's team. Mostly Srs again, with a couple of Jrs who might see some starts and maybe earn a spot. Patrick Roy returns as catcher, as the lone returning starter from last year. I think jr Cameron Oakley, LH pitcher will some some good mound time this Spring and will be a very pleasant surprise in that bullpen once conference play gets under way.

Offensively, having 9+ hitters last year spoils you. But this lineup has the potential to be right there. There is plenty of power in the line up, with Kleat Norris, Patrick Roy, Alec Scearcy, Tanner Merritt, Bryan Quintard and Jason Sugg all showing lots of +pop this Fall and into Spring. Jr Tyler Clifton has shown a significant increase in power. It will be a matter of getting the timing down, and hitting feeds hitting...but the potential lineup shows much promise from an offensive standpoint. And there's some solid hitting in the wings too (a nice luxury). I really think, there will be very little letup in the order, once things shake out and things get under way. Kinda like last years team, with a lot of solid players who are going to play together and push each other to get things done.

The RM matchup is always a good benchmark for both teams this early in the season,. These kids battle it out through JV and Varsity ball, through the summers with Babe Ruth and some legion tossed in. Makes for better ball players all the way around. BTW, the opening game vs Rm will be played at JH Rose High School.

If'n you want to see some uni's get dirty and some boys gettin after it, this would be a good place to be. Looking forward to a fun start to a fun HS season!

How big of a game is it?

If it's that big of a game, maybe EA will come be your sideline reporter. Nothing to see here. Please disperse.
