Should--or can--everyone be taught to slide?

Also, I've read that the head first slide is the most effective slide (except at home). No head first at home--period--imho!

A lot of risk with the head first slide. Fingers, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders can be damaged, not to mention what can happen to your face. Really, until Pete Rose came along, the head first slide was fairly rare. Fewer and fewer players these days know the art of sliding... more of them are worried about their homerun trot!

    Nope !!

I say avoid head slides at any cost. Gman said it best, fingers,hands,etc..could and probably will be damaged in a head first slide. It might look pretty/aggressive, but the results may not be pretty !!!

I do believe someone can be taught to slide...in fact, they must be taught to slide. Now, as far as the head first slide goes I see no problem with it. In fact I would say less injuries occur with the head first slide. It basically takes the knees and ankles out of it. I am not sure what the colleges are teaching nowadays and would be interested to know their philosophies on head first sliding.

If we do away with shorts as part of the uniform we would have more luck getting girls to slide.

    Really !!

You believe it's safer than sliding with the foot at the bag first ?? Really ??? Not trying to fight or disagree, but are you serious ??? It's really not an comparison because the head first slide is not done as often as the feet slide, so it's not an apple for an apple !!

    Maybe -- But !!

But if the head slide was as often as the foot slide you would see more hands, fingers, wrist broken as well as feet or knee injuries...now like I said it's not an argument just a disagreement..hey teach you kids to slide however you want them to !!
