random thoughts...

This is NC, where all parents believe D2 is a club sport and 'lil Jonnie won't be able to play at the next level if he attends

we are spoiled here with so many DI AND DII programs. Just look one state north or south and see how lucky we are.

I see what you guys are saying, but admit it, hasn't the "acceptable" look of a player changed at least to some extent?

They don't have to look like "Beaver Cleaver" but they ain't gonna impress dressed like a "gangsta"... as Crash told Nuke... "fungus on your shower shoes when you're in the "Show" means you're colorful, fungus on your shower shoes in the minors means you're a slob!"

"exactly, baseball players, and the showcases and all that jazz with their numbers is why a lot of PLAYERS slip through the cracks"

I believe it's just the opposite, the showcases are why so many more NC boys are playing college ball. The ones that "fall through the cracks" are the ones that don't get out and get exposure. They won't find you if they have never heard of you.

"The wise player practices and plays as though someone of significance is watching him at all times."

"You never know whose watching"... I wrote this on the underside of the bill on my son's caps every year.

"What was wrong with his grammar"

Wat doos you meen? He talked good!

What an incredible mind God gave us humans - eh? Scientists estimate that the human brain calculates roughly 100 trillion calculations per second! So no wonder we can burn through a paragraph without even needing all the letters. We actually have the mental capacity to 'fix' the letters in each world so it ends up sounding right in our minds. Isn't it also amazing that the mind filters the decision making process so we don't have to make decisions on all those calculations - talk about not being able to chew gum and walk at the same time.

While a certain look may be offensive to those of us over 35, it really is more about what it says about the player. Does he care? Is he smart enough to know he is bringing unnecessary risk into the equation? Is he focused? Is he ready? Will he care enough to battle and fight through challenging times? I'm sure there are some who are caring, ready, focused and committed who wear their hat sideways, with an unruly mop of hair, wearing their worn out shower slippers, arriving at the field out of uniform, etc....but they are creating unnecessary hurdles to clear. What a coach really wants to see is the player who is prepared, eager, and ready to battle....ready to commit all of his physical and mental gifts to be the best competitor he can be. Put them side by side and who do you choose? On the ballfield, or in the workplace for that matter...
