Do any HS Softball teams have paid assistant coaches?
The New Coach at my dd's HS asked parents to contact the AD regarding paying for an assistant coach. Although I did not hold any hope for our success, several of the parents talked with the AD at the bb game last night. This is what we were told: There is money allocated for a JV Coach (we have no JV squad) but not for an Varsity Assistant. One of the parents asked how Baseball could have multiple assistants. The AD said that Baseball is a *Revenue* generating sport and they had funding for 1 assistant and that all of the other coaches were volunteers.

Seems to me if they have money funded for a JV coach and there is no JV team then they could give that money to an assistant for the varsity.

We aren't a big softball school by any stretch of the word, but our varsity assistant and our jv head coach will both be paid, not alot mind you but they are paid..

    paid assistant coaches

Unless I am mistaken, only head coaches in Wake county are paid. Be it JV or Varsity. The only exception is football where up to 3 assistants are paid.
Our softball teams Head coach is a volunteer and gets the supplement which he generally puts back into the program. I am a volunteer assistant and I do not recieve any pay.

    paid assistants

3bagger15 is being incredibly modest: Both the coaches put considerably more than the supplement back into our program, in their own $$$ as well as massive sweat equity. That's why the volunteers would walk through "heck" in a fire suit for either one of them and our girls!!! GO TROJANS!!!

as said, it depends upon county. we have paid asst varsity coaches and paid jv coaches, but no paid asst coaches for jv. lets see, head varsity is like $1100 or so to start, asst varsity is $686 to start and jv is about 828 to start with a 3-5% increase per year for every continual year of coaching.

Getting paid instead of volunteering would be too much like work. Of course, it would make taking some of the crap easier to bear. But then again, that might bring more crap.

As long as they take care of what the girls need I'm satisfied with my pay.

.....nice post. Moe and Ricky are the salt of the earth and will give their right arms to help the kids.
I'm sure that there are a bunch of folks, statewide, who give their time to the kids, and I'll bet NONE of them are interested in the $.
All I can say to them is.........THANKS!
