    When after a weekend left with alot of time scratching my head over some tough losses by McDowell girls and UNC....Im now scratching my head on how a team with a very sub-.500 record made the playoffs. Congrats to McDowell anyways, but Im really at a loss of words on how they qualified after the season they've had.

    To be honest I was very surprised when I saw the brackets posted just a couple hours ago...I even waited just in case the NCHSAA pulled the brackets and edited them...but McDowell was the last Wild Card to make it in. The overall records of the 6 Wild Card teams in the West Region are by far the worst yet since the format was put in a few years ago.

    This is a reason why the NCHSAA needs to go back to 48-54 team tournaments instead of the field of 64. Its reminiscent of the football playoffs in that 4-6 and 3-7 teams are getting in. Put the best teams in and those that fielded sub-500 teams, leave them at home to prepare for next year.
