DD is playing SB. She rides the bench. She is learning a lot on the SB Team and loves the team, but she can not take what she is learning to the field because there is no PT. JV is not an option. She can not play SB and TB at the same time. Her fear is if she waits much longer to find a TB team they will all be full by June.

Does she leave SB and play TB where she can play fulltime right away and go back to SB next year when she can play regular?, or does she sit the season out with SB and hope she gets picked up by a TB team in June?

First, how old? Middle school or high school? Next, Look harder for a TB team for her to play with. There are coaches out there that understand about school ball and will work with you. Many older teams will not play until after school is over anyway. Best of luck to you!

if this is hs, most tb teams have tryouts during the first part of the year with plans to play after hs ball is over. i wouldnt wait, find a tb team now and go to team practices until hs is over.

I'm not sure what the NS or SC HS regs state about contact with a TB team during HS season. There is nothing wrong with looking for a TB team or even posting. You, as a parent, can handle all the communication so that she meets the letter of the law, if applicable.

Cheese105 can help me out here on this one, but I probably wouldn't have her quit the school team. For one, she probably would want to be with her friends. Second, I think it would send a message to the coach that if things don't go her way, she quits. What would happen next year when she shows up at try-outs?

    Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Once started, quitting is never a good idea. Finish the season.
Aside from a rule on coaches, there are no other conflicts with TB teams other than political.

As said above, find TB team now(many started having tryouts last fall). If she is playing HS ball, then those age groups are usually "on hold" game wise till HS ball is over. And most only practice on the weekend during HS season.

the biggest rule that i teach is "finish your committments", even if you're sitting on the bench, finish the year out.

there is no rule stating that you cant play on a tb team at the same time as a hs team, that is no rule from the nchsaa, but many schools have rules that forbid it. i let my players go the their tryouts and practices, but frown on them playing during hs season.

If I understand you correct, you are discouraging girls from playing TB while your HS season is going on? If so, this seems to be selfish. I have never understood why coachs feel this way. If it come from the possibility of them getting hurt while playing TB the chances of getting hurt playing HS are also there as well. TB gives young ladies a greater chance to further their skill sets then what they will get playing HS in my opion. They will be playing better teams for the most part and have a greater rate of exposure to college scouts then what HS will ever be able to offer. This is just my opion as I'm sure everyone has their own on this subject

You all make valid points. But where is the committment from the coach who takes a player and doesn't play them? Isn't this a two way street? ALL DD's want to play, and should if they are leaving it all out there everyday at practice. Why do you and others frown on players playing TB during SB? I do not understand that at all. I find it hard to believe that a coach would blame a DD for leaving a SB team where she sits, when she could be playing TB and developing. Then come back next year more experienced. I never knew there was this unwritten rule between SB and TB, and DD's sitting when they should be playing, and frowning on players trying to get better by playing. Thanks for the input.

I know I will probably get nailed for this ,but here goes.I don't see how someone can call a HS coach selfish for wanting the ladies that play for him to be focused on playing for that team.I also don't understand a TB coach who will not honor that.Ask the Tb coaches out there if they would be happy if the HS coaches that their players play for interfered with their TB schedule or practices.HS coaches are not highly paid and most do it for the girls, should they not be shown the same respect that we show our TB coaches?College coaches don't come to many HS games, but the "big" showcases don't start until after HS ball ends. The TB coach my DD plays for starts practices around Apr.These are weekends and are completely voluntary until your HS season is over.If your HS coach does'nt want you practicing with your TB team ,no problem, but you are held responsible for practicing hard and improving your game though the HS season.Bottom line, your HS coaches make sacrifices and put up with alot of crap they should'nt have to,pay them the respect they deserve.
