    Umpire tosses one

Anyone know why the Butler SS was ejected from the game?

Mouthing at the umpire after not getting the call on a close play at 2nd. Must have used a few foul words to the ump because it was a quick ejection.

SS said he said one thing, ump heard something different. Doesn't matter who's right, he shouldn't have said anything. He learned a valuable lesson. I do have an issue with the HP ump "discussing" balls and strike calls with our catcher between innings. Almost seems as if he were baiting him for an arguement. Shut up and call the game, you don't need the catcher's opinion. Having said all that, Butler lost this game because they were overmatched. Butler did very little right and AK was near perfect. Congrats Awood on a great outing and to Stetson for killing the ball every at bat.

When AWood is on the bump, AK may be the best 4A team in the state. Last night's win over Butler was dominating and every part of their game was on- defensively, offensively and pitching. And what amazed me was that many players on AK have been bitten by the flu bug. AWood was struggling with a respiratory infection, but you couldn't tell by his performance.

Of the many offensive weapons that AK has the one that stood out to me was Brett Lang. The sophomore has a sweet compact swing that makes it tough for anyone to throw a FB by him. In my opinion, the young man is capable of leading this team offensively the rest of the year. There are many exciting things to watch with the young Knights---their defense is better than you will see at many colleges. They are "Hoovers" in the field.

Next week's game against Providence should be a thriller. I hope the Kastle can hold all the fans for this game because it will be one of the best you will see this year.

The umpire's decision about the ejection was horrible at best. Regardless whether he blew the call, the fact that he took so long to make it caused problems for both teams...then he became very aggressive trying to justify his call which made matters worse. He was a rookie umpire and made a huge rookie mistake that caused a young man to be wrongfully ejected. There were so many better ways the situation could have been handled, unfortunately, he chose the wrong one.

As far as the HP umpire is concerned, he is an experienced senior umpire. He could have quickly diffused the situation and given much needed guidance, but he chose to let his partner handle the situation alone--and that's the problem I had with it. They partner the rookies with a seasoned umpire for a reason---to help give guidance and advice to prevent the situation that occured last night.

It was ironic the following night at the Providence/Butler game they had an umpire handle a situation with a player completely different.

Player was called out on strikes for the second time and must have said something objectional as he was leaving the plate. He did not turn and argue, throw anything, or do anything to "show up" the blue. He ran back to the dugout. What he said was not audible from where I was 20' away.

Instead of getting the instant heave ho, like what happened then night before, blue immediately went to his coach and had the coach handle the situation. I could imagine that the zone would have been very large for his next turn at the plate, but that is much perferable that be sitting two games for an ejection.

    Well done Blue!

Exactly. Call the coach over and tell him to take control or there will be consequences.
