Eastern Wayne 16 Wilson Hunt 6

Final score not indicative of how close the game was. Eastern Wayne scored 8 runs in the top of seventh to put an end to a Hunt comeback attempt. Eastern Wayne scored 7 runs in top of 3rd to take the lead over Hunt 7-2. A 2run HR by John Wooten started the proceedings. Cambric Moye hit a solo shot over the left field fence to put E.Wayne up 8-2 in the 4th. Hunt scrapped back in the game & actually had the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, down 8-5, 1 out, & HR phenom Jake Strickland at the plate. John Wooten came in & induced Strickland into a fielders choice & ended the inning with a strikeout.

    WP: Zach Beachem
    LP: Sam Strickland

Sets up next Friday's battle for first place in the ECC: 3-27-09 C.B. Aycock @ Eastern Wayne

South West Edgecombe and Tarboro got together in Pinetops today with Tarboro winning both games.

    JV- Tarboro 17
    SWE 1
    WP- Nick Oliver- 5 Innings, 2 hits, 7-8 k's

    Varsity Tarboro 6
    SWE 4
    WP Boykin
    LP Tolson

Good Game- both teams really played hard

I was proud of my sophomore southpaw from SWE- Nate Ferrell relieved Thomas Tolson- went 3 1/3 innings- 5 K's- gave up a couple of runs on a bloop hit with bases loaded. Pitched himself out of a jam a couple of times. Got the Tarboro big bats out when he needed.
Good Job Nate-A-Rooskie- Prairie Dog guide service!!

    From Thursday:

Salem Baptist defeated Vandalia Christian 7-6 in 8 innings. Salem rallied after being down 3-0 in the 6th and down 6-3 in the 7th to force extra innings. Charlie Heath for Salem hit a walkoff ground rule double to win the game for Salem. Matt Wood goes 4 1/3 innings to pick up the win for Salem striking out 7 and allowing 2 hits. 2011 recruit Jonathan Bethea from Vandalia gets the ND.

Jr. Ricky Holden pitched for Richmond and had 15 punch outs allowing 4 hits. Taylor McDonald pitched for Pinecrest allowing 4 hits, one of which was a homerun in the first inning by Richmond SS Dylan Davenport. Pinecrest gave up an unearned run in the 3rd to make up the scoring. Playing a tough non conference schedule does have a benefit in the long run but you have to be careful not to use up your pitching to early.

Cary took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the 5th and then the Richmond County bats exploded.

Cary has three conference games in Week 4:
    Monday vs Lee County
    Tuesday @ Athens Drive
    Friday vs Middle Creek

On Friday the 20th, Apex beat Athens 5-0 and Green Hope beat Middle Creek 8-3.
