Central had at least two definate hits, and two more that were probably hits.

    Hits?

I did not realize that the number of hits mattered in a game, just the number of runs scored by each team. Whether Central had 1 hit, 3 hits, or 8 hits is rather meaningless with regard to the ultimate outcome, which is still a loss. There is way to much emphasis being placed on statistics.

I personally believe there is more to the game than the final score. Stats let you know which players are making good contact with the ball. If you are facing a team where you have some heavy hitters then you want to be aware of that person the next time you face off. Might mean the difference in an out and an out of the park.

Talk to the pitcher who gives up the hit.....it makes a difference.
Talk to the kid who got the hit....it makes a difference.

It matters to the kids and if I'm not mistaken that's what it's all about.

    It is about the girls.

I could not agree more that it is about the girls, and that each hit counts, but if you will notice, the poster did not say which girls got the hits, just that their team had a couple more hits than was mentioned. It is almost as if they were trying to find some solace in not winning, and laying claim to the fact that they were shorted a couple of hits. There are no 2 scorekeepers of a game that are going to agree on every play, as there is far to much bias. The only way to solve this issue is to have a totally neutral scorekeeper doing the book for each game, and where in the world are you going to find that?

If it is about the kids, and not about which team wins, then why do folks even post scores on this site, without mention sometimes of all the "individual performances?"

Bottom line should be the competition itself, and playing with sportsmanship. Teams should always play to win, and if they do so, the group should feel proud of their accomplishment. It bugs me to see girls happy after a game that their "team" lost, just because they played well individually. I've seen to much of that over the past couple of high school seasons. Instead of emphasis being placed on team, it is more and more being placed on individual performance. If you are the type of player that wants to place emphasis on indivual performance, then you should play, golf, tennis or chess.

Great outlook, but reality is quite different. I keep a seperate book for my daughter. It seems in today's newspaper they gave her an extra hit and robbed one of our best players a mention for a homerun. I do not think this is fair to BREANNA JONES. Ms. Jones hit a 2 run Home run over the fence, her 1st ever in high school and the paper got it wrong....well just didn't mention it. I do not know who called in the report, but do know that Breanna needs to be noticed. I sent the editor a nice e mail about it.

By the way, Breanna plays for Steve Harkey's Piedmont Storm. Way to go Breanna!

My daughter's name is Rebekah Reaves, but the paper always spells it Rebecca Reeves, I guess that is close enough---LOL
