Come on Putt. It is my can of worms too. Those who look to justify it, call it something else... ect.. Have allowed this to happen in part. I think is it is also the systems fault. If we could go back and make schools what they are Places of Learning. If a school has low test scores, students are allowed to move to one that is not. How about firing the teachers after poor evaulations. Go back to schools teaching the same subjects. This will take away one avenue. Enforce the rules. If you get caught your child sits. Make the rules. Play by the rules. Transfer waiting periods. There are many ways.

No one can justify an illegal transfer and no one on this board ever has. The problem with discussing this on a messageboard is it won't solve the problem. Take your complaints to a place where it can make a difference.

The other concern with discussing it here is it brings some people out of the woodwork who only post when this topic comes up. They have an agenda that is personal and it adds nothing to the topic other than inflame current or past members without having the facts......ain't going to happen.

I read ICU's post and I understand his frustrations. But it is a rant with no solutions that we can offer other than support of those frustrations.

I miss these good, lively discussions where people can disagree, but do so with civility and a sense of humor.

    For What its Worth

    FWIW
Recruited; Son off to college in fall to play ball. Thanks in part to TBR and others advice, here’s our enjoyable experience.

Sophomore season; HS coach met and discussed recruitment with players and parents, his advice was get good grades and don’t wait for someone to do it for you. Went to a Big East college recruit camp that summer, only 32 mostly HS grads and WOW that was eye opening. Saw the level of competition, learned what they are evaluating, and the college coach advice was to play Legion Ball and contact programs you are interested in.

Junior year; played HS and Legion, no showcase stuff. Played a few tournaments for a travel poser team that always needed players. Did not encounter any scouts but did meet one pissed off dad at UNCC that said he had just stroked a $4,000 check and they still charged him 5 bucks to get into the game. At a tournament at WCU, to get back on time because of fog the ump allowed only 3 batters not 3 outs in 7th inning of a tie game, Nuts. Did not go to any of the cattle call, pay recruitment weekends. Did attend the rising senior workout at legion all-stars in July. Received 3 calls and invites to mini camps from that.

Senior year; Sept 1st made a list of 10 schools WE liked, sent a short e-mail baseball Bio letter to the college head and assistant coaches telling them we want to play for their program and included phone numbers of HS coach, Legion Head and Legion pitching coach. Very easy, the coaches contact info was right on the college websites. Got DI and DII invites to mini camps even one where there was just my son and 1 other. A few years ago we went to the college world series, UNC never substituted the whole week. Was later told many DI recruits can’t take not playing, some never even get in uniform and are gone in 2 years. He accepted a surprisingly generous DII scholarship in November where they expect him in the rotation come spring. Like most he was not a USC or LSU level recruit but he could have gone DI. May still. For now he’s got college life to figure out, games to get ready for and coaches to convince he’s the DH in his days off.

Lots of ways to get there, this is how we did it.
