    Providence 5 Myers Park 1

Nice article by Cliff Mertens in the Charlotte Observer about the game. Both pitchers pitched well; Shaffer 6 innings, Overman a complete game, with both around 95-100 pitches.

Myers Park's lack of experience versus Providence's experience was the story of the game. MP wasted opportunities in the first and second ,stranding 5 runners, allowing Richie to settle in. Shaffer made some great pitches when he needed to, allowing only 4 hits, while striking out 11. Providence took advantage of any mistake afforded them, a sign of an experienced team. A 2 out walk, a HBP on a 0-2 count, followed by an infield single/ E6, followed by a bloop 2B that appeared to be lost in the lights by the CF accounted for PHS first two runs. The last 2 runs scored on a 2 out blooper that the SS for MPHS had in his glove, but was ruled that he dropped, in what would have been a great play!

MyersPark starts 3 2011's, 3 2010's, and only 3 seniors. Eight of 9 Providence players either started or contributed last year, some for 2 years. That shows in close, well played games like last night.

Chris Overman pitched well in defeat, giving up only 3 sharply hit singles, but 5 other hits, including a good bunt single by Casella.

Myers Park is scheduled to host East Meck tonight and travel to South Meck tomorrow night, looking to get back on the winning track, after absorbing their first lose of this rain soaked season.

Also, the chirping and monkey noises were very annoying, but that is Providence's choice. As long as they are winning games, whatever works for them.

Good Game - Timely Hits Not There

MP had chances - just could not get the timely hit or break early when opportunities were there. Give credit to Providence for playing well. Good to see Hager hitting well again after struggling a bit - I guess he just needed enough live plate appearances to loosen him up and get him going again.

Silly dugout stuff - Providence is a better team than that. Support your teammates, but have some class.

It was a great game to watch and both teams played well. Good to see DC and Tresch again.

Butler: Berkey and Hibbard also had singles in addition to those already mentioned.

Weddington: Collins hits a shot into the RF corner for the RBI and Trescher absolutely kills a ball into LC gap.

McMahon threw for Butler and as DC said, both pitchers did a great job keeping guys off balance all night. Tewell enters with runners on 1st and 2nd in the top of the 7th and 1 out. He was fortunate to strike out the final two batters to preserve the win. Hendel pitched extremely well and I was very impressed with his control of all pitches.

And for the few that have asked; yes that was my son that batted from the right side in his final at bat. It was not some new kid on the team. Hendel's stuff was so good last night, Tewell felt it was necessary to make a change. Luckily, it worked out in Butler's favor.

East Meck 7 Myers Park 0

East Meck took control early and never looked back behind the 3 hit pitching of Olen Little at Jack Sink Field Wednesday night. Ahead 6-0 after one and a half innings, Little threw strikes and kept MP off balance all night. Myers Park seemed a bit hungover after losing their first game of the season to Providence the night before. East Meck is a very, very solid baseball team that will compete in the tough SW4A. They made all the plays defensively behind Little, committing only 1 error in the first inning, and Little promptly picked that baserunner off first.

Austin Campbell threw 5 good innings in relief of Grant Fisher, who took his first loss of the season for MP.

Myers Park travels to South Meck tonight; weather permitting.

    Butler @ Independence

    Butler 11
    Independence 1
    Final in 6 innings

Game was moved up to 4:30 to try and beat the rain. Hibbard pitches another nice game for Butler, Mas throws the last inning. Most if not all Butler batters had a hit in this game. Fincher (2) 2B, Anderson HR, Tewell 2B, more details later.

    Prov. vs. East Meck

    EM 000 000 0 0 7 1
    P 012 110 X 5 9 1

    WP Siemenuk; LP Trosch

Siemenuk went 6 for the Panthers and Trosch the whole way for the Eagles. Both pitchers looked good, with Trosch giving up 3 runs on 2 hanging curves that were promptly sent packing over the fence. Siemenuk kept the Eagles from stringing hits together and the youngsters from East left at least 8 runners stranded. Well played game, especially on a sloppy field with mist coming down most of the game. The Eagles, like MP last week, just couldn't get the timely hit to put more pressure on Providence. Providence is the real deal, even with a certain third baseman out of the lineup. There just aren't any holes in their batting order. Even though they lost, East continued to earn respect as they climb up the SW4A ladder.
