I thought this was deserving of a new thread- Congratulations to SW Edgecombe on getting their first NEW 6 conference win last night vs. Nash Central. I know TJ started for NC- not sure who took the loss.

    Can they get another???? Who??

    SWE- 5
    NC-3

    Baseball Britt vs. Tommy Hawkins

Baseball Britt had some stiff competition in the other dugout! Helping out Bruce Rhodes this year is none other than Wilson County coaching legend Tommy Hawkins. Hawkins led the 1971 Saratoga Central team to the 1A State Championship!:cheers2:

Southwest Edgecome: 1-31 in NEW 6!

How quickly a program can change! In 2004, SW Edgecombe (led by Bruce Rhodes) played for the 2A State Championship against East Rutherford. East Rutherford won the title, 2 games to 1. In 2006, Southwest moved up to to 3A, & joined the NEW 6 Conference. A 3-year conference losing streak began. Southwest's 31 game conference losing streak is now over.
Congratulations to the Cougars. I predict more conference wins are coming! They played Wilson Fike very tough on Tuesday night. The pitching sorta fell apart in the 6th inning.

    Thanks

for reminding me about that SWE run to the state finals. I had almost forget. NOT! They knocked us out in the first round at their place in a nail biter. Hey Baseball Britt, at least when we lost to them they were a powerhouse program! Just kidding buddy.

Bruce Rhodes is an outstanding coach. There have been some outstanding players and teams at SWE. Coach Rhodes is the master of Pick off plays in every situation. I have one question though does he still have grass covering the back side of the mound? By the way his field is always one of the best kept around as well.
