Marvin Ridge is running away with the SPC because they are good and because the SPC is a little week.

I agree that the NPC is one of the better conferences they have five teams that can compete opposed to two or three in most others.

    Marvin Ridge: 8-1

They must be good. Their only loss was to Ardrey Kell 5-4! Last year they ran away with the South Piedmont Conference. They took a 19-4 record into the state playoffs, but lost a heartbreaker to West Rowan 2-1 in the 1st round. The school is in the small town of Waxhaw, south of Charlotte, on the NC/SC border. My son played in a Babe Ruth Regional in nearby Weddington, NC about 3 years ago thats close to Waxhaw. Nice area!

    Marvin Ridge

Marvin Ridge isn't going to blow anyone off the field by hitting a ton of homeruns or anything. We have a couple great hitters in Byron Haag 2010 and Shane Basen (UNC Charlotte signee) and a bunch of guys who get timely hits. Not to mention great pitching in Scott Shipman (Augusta St. signee) and Justin Setzer. These guys might go to school in tiny Waxhaw,NC but almost all of them either play with the SC Panthers, On Deck or the Megastars. We definitely can play with the big boys (ask Mincmi about that Ardrey Kell game) and have out of conference games left with South Meck, Weddington, and Charlotte Christian. Smart baserunning and capitalizing on other teams mistakes is the trademark of Mark Mennitt and this team is no different. The SPC might be a little down this year but all we can do is win games and worry about the rest later. The NPC is without question better top to bottom than the SPC but there is no doubt that we can play with anyone in any conference.

    Who have you seen?

Of the teams I have seen this season (about 20) and how they fared in the first month:

    • Rose (4A) – until they are gone
    • Providence (4A) – when healthy
    • Myers Park (4A) – A lot of young talent
    • Ardrey Kell (4A) – starting to figure some things out
    • Watauga (4A) – Good enough to win against anyone
    • Orange (2A) – Another defender that will make a run
    • Marvin Ridge (3A) – Talent to compete in the upper division of the SW4A
    • Olympic (3A) – If they ever learn to catch the baseball, watch out
    • Butler (4A) – Sneaky good. Would not be surprised to see a strong showing out east this week.
    • Hopewell (4A) – Beginning to come around

    From the Hickory Daily Record:

Hickory- The Daily Record has learned that there has been a statewide APB posted for a hit-and-run driver who may use the alias, "Strike-em-out". Authorities are baffled at the elusiveness of the man who they say frequently "strikes" on TBR Boulevard. TBR Blvd. is a private, statewide baseball highway that prides itself on offering a smooth freeway on which high school baseball fans can cruise without the threat of ridicule. TBR head moderator, "Braves" said that the driver in question could be headed for a suspension, his second since he joined the highway club. "This guy beats all I've ever seen" said Braves. "He just has a knack for hitting people and leaving the scene". Although a description is lacking at this time, authorities are warning motorists who frequent TBR to be very careful in how they drive as there is no telling what will set this guy off. Chief Assistant Moderator, "Stretchy" says he believes that "Strike-em-out" is suffering from a showcase baseball withdrawal, and is internally conflicted as to which brand of baseball is best. Says Stretchy, "I see it everyday in the TBR Rest Stop(Chat) these people get so defensive about their own brand of baseball that it can lead to some bizarre behavior. I would ask that all TBR participants be very wary of how they proceed down the Blvd. This guy can be trouble"
