    Rocky Mount sweeps Durham Riverside!

I ventured over to Gryphon Stadium today to take in the doubleheader between #2 3A Rocky Mount & #1 4A Durham Riverside. With only 1 loss between the two teams something had to give. Riverside's unbeaten streak not only gave, it collapsed. The Gryphons jumped on Riverside early in both games & forced the Durham squad to play catch-up for most of the afternoon. Rocky Mount just simply out-played Riverside in every phase of the game: Pitching, hitting, base-running, & defense. I didn't get a feel for how good this Durham team actually is. One things for sure: You've got to bring your A-Game if you want to beat the Gryphons. Riverside didn't.

Game 1: Rocky Mount 7-4 WP: Hobbs Johnson
Game 2: Rocky Mount 9-4 WP: Nick Hahula

Maybe the Nash County guys have the hitting stats.

Person Defeats Millbrook and East Wake to win the Bobby Murray Invitational

We played well and played hard. We were very fortunate also.

    12:00 Game
    Person 7, Millbrook 4

Millbrook is a very good team, they are 4-0 in their conference, according to their coach prior to the game. They play hard and battled through the whole game. Stephen Wright (SR) pitched well and kept them off balance and the Person defense played well also.

    PER 032 100 1 7 13 1
    MIL 102 100 1 3 6 1

    WP- Stephen Wright (1-3) CG, 3 runs, 3 ER, 6 hits, 3 K's 2 BB
    LP - Justin Abbott

    Leading Hitters:
PER - Trey Davis 3-4, 2B, RBI; Kyle Gentry 3-4, RBI, Stephen Wright 2-4, RBI; Casey Horton 2-4, 2 RBI; Travis Vaughan 1-3; Dylan Dickens 1-4, RBI; Marc Davis 1-4

    MIL - Patrick Hanes 2-4, HR, RBI; Garrett Redmond 1-4, RBI; Bryan Lincoln 1-3, RBI;

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME - Person 2, East Wake 1

This one was a pitchers duel between Jonathan Aparicio (FR/RHP) and Christian Dickens (SR). Apraricio has alot of upside with a loose arm action and was throwing (I estimate) in the mid 80's. He will will develop into a good one, with time and more experience. Christian Dickens made his first start of the season and pitched 5 strong innings before giving way to younger brother Dylan (SOPH). For the tournament, the Rocket pitching staff was efficient, throwing about 240 pitches in 3 games (20 IP). The Person defense played well with 0 errors in the game.

    EW - 000 010 0 1 5 1
    PER - 010 100 x 2 4 0

    WP - Christian Dickens (2-0) 5 IP; 1 run, 1 ER, 4 hits, 2 K's, 0 BB
    LP - Jonathan Aparicio CG, 2 runs, 2 ER, 4 hits, 4 K's, 3 BB
    SV - Dylan Dickens (1) 2 IP, 0 runs, 1 hit, 2 K's 0 BB

    Leading hitters:
EW - Taylor Griswold 2-2, run; Jonathan Aparicio 1-3, 3B;Wes Luck 1-3; Nate Lusk 1-3

    Records:
    Person 8-5
    East Wake 6-8

An Excellent day for the Rockets winning a well run tournament played at the USA Complex in Cary, which was in immaculate condition. Thanks to the Bobby Murray family for hosting the tournament and Gary Harris for being a gracious host!

Thomas Berry is a real good hitter! He batted .479 last fall with the Wilson Bulldogs. I was really impressed with his stroke. The 5 walks are just as important as a base hit. Get on base any way you can.
