Here is an article that is a perfect example why ASA began to require background checks this year. Background checks are required of all coaches and anyone who may have contact with a player at a practice or game.

If this association had required background checks, this terrible incident would probably have been prevented. (Be sure to read both pages of the article.) Hopefully this dirt bag will be put away for life.

    Totally Agree !!

If anybody has a problem with this then maybe ,just maybe they ought to find another hobby !! Everybody should want their children to feel safe while under the care of any coach male or female. I want even let somebody elses kid ride with me alone in the car unless I have my daughter or a group of kids or another parent. Coaches need to protect themselves also on false accusations due to an irate parent trying to get back at the coach over something. When I send emails to the kids I copy any conversation to the other coaches, it just protects all parties involved. Love your kids but be careful !!

You Don't Have to Go to Minnesota....

a youth basketball coach in eastern NC was found guilty of the same thing earlier this year. prominent in the community, and people were shocked. please don't ever let down your guard parents.

    1 question

Should a man or women who is a known sex offender be allowed to come see their DD play softball or any other sport or activity? The person will be in the presents of other kids and we know the person is there. How should the person be treated?

There is no clear answer without knowing all the circumstances. I would like to think that all the kids would be able to carry on normally. That includes his DD. There are different kinds of sex offenders. If he were a known predator I believe the courts would have banned him from situations like softball games.

We should all be alert to any danger to any of the kids. We want to keep a healthy atmosphere that does not involve unwarranted fear or suspicion however.

A side note: Hotels are places that feel safe when traveling but be aware these are some of the most dangerous places. That includes restaurants nearby. I've seen too many kids allowed too much freedom when playing TB.

I believe that Mecklenburg and other counties have passed a law banning all sex offenders from being in any park. I would contact the proper authorities and let them figure it out. How would you feel if something happened and you did not speak up?

    PARENTS

WHERE WERE THE PARENTS? WE KEEP SPEAKING ABOUT THE KIDS OR DAUGHTERS...I'VE BEEN INVOLVED WITH TB GOING ON 9YEARS NOW AND I ALSO NEVER PUT MYSELF(JUST LIKE SOFTBALL GURU) IN AN UNCOMFORTABLE SITUATION . I INVOLVE THE TEAM'S MOM(S) IN SEVERAL ACTIVITIES INCLUDING SLEEPOVERS, UNIFORM FITTING, ETC...I ALSO THINK THAT IT'S IMPORTANT FOR THE GIRLS TO BOND OUTSIDE OF BALL AND I GREATLY APPRECIATE THE TEAM'S MOM(S) ROLE. BUT THE ARTICLE I READ WAS ABOUT A COACH THAT WAS INVOLVED WITH SEVERAL GIRLS(9Y/O TO 10Y/O) AT A HOTEL...WHY WOULD A PARENT LET ANY CHILD BE ALONE IN THAT SITUATION?...WHERE WERE THE PARENTS? PARENTS SHOULD KNOW THE COACH AND HIS REPUTATION . PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT A COACHES REPUTATION GOES ALONG WAY IN ALOT THESE SMALL TOWNS OF NORTH CAROLINA- ESPECIALLY IN THE SOFTBALL COMMUNITIES.

PS. I ALWAYS SAID "IF YOU WANT TO BE TALKED ABOUT GOOD OR BAD-
    BE A SOFTBALL COACH":lalala:
