American Legion State Finals @ Thomasville a few years ago. Me, wossa, tj, boxman, Braves, and few others are taking in the Kannapolis/Caldwell game, big time baseball. Braves keeps slipping off to the parking lot every half inning. Each time takes a little longer that the previous time. After about the 4th inning he comes back, the knees on his britches were muddy, belt askew, hair all jacked up and a big wet spot on his right rear pocket....plus he stunk of vodka, real bad. He fed us some cockamamie story about catching some kids drinking out by the dumpster and after a brief scuffle, he "wrested" the bottle from them. Model citizen he is alright. We all just busted out laughing.

Later that evening he was found under the stands, fast asleep, with a wadded up baby diaper for a pillow. As I made my way back to the truck after the game, i overheard some cops laughing about this drunk guy who fell out of his truck about midway thru the last game.....dude even sported a press pass.

I was playing second base for Gardner-Webb in the late 80's. We were playing High Point College. We were winning the game 10-3 in the 7th inning. High Point had a runner on third base. I always backed up the throw from the catcher, and I did this time too. Except I was going through the motions and not paying attention to the throw. Well, while jogging over to back-up the throw I was looking down at the ground and all of a sudden I see a baseball roll right on past me. The runner scored and the shortstop who was my roomie was giving it to me for such as bone head play. But the worst was yet to come. Having played all year error free, about 25 games, I made three errors in the 8th and 9th inning. Those errors lead to a come from behind victory for High Point college that day. After all the rocks I had picked up off that field in my three years prior, I had a pretty good rock pile to hide behind when the game was over.
