    Be Carefull !

NB-I get your point! Be careful or like Ms. California you might not win the pageant. Today we must be sooooooooooooo politically correct just to express our opinions. It is great that everyone can discuss any topic but remember that opinions are like ...holes everyone has one!

To take this conversation in a little bit of a different direction, let me add this. There are plenty of pitchers at the college level who didn't have the greatest or best stats in the state in high school, regardless of what level they played.

College coaches really don't pay too much attention to HS stats, because as some have stated here, the various levels of competition can be so extreme in high school. What these coaches want to see from girls they are considering recruiting is how they compete against the competition in the summer. They want to see if a girl can pitch against the highest level competition.

If a young lady is fundamentally sound, has control of her pitches, can hit her spots and understands how to set up batters and get them out, then it really doesn't matter to a college coach what "A" level she played in high school.

This IMO, is why it is important for teams to play in the highest level of showcase tournaments they can get into. It's against this level of competition where college coaches make decisions if a certain pitcher can pitch and help his/her team win.

To prove the point, turn the conversation around to football, for example. How many 1A or 2A schools would really want to have to play Independence, Butler, or New Bern year in and year out?

What? The 4A schools don't even want to play these guys.

This makes a bit more sense...

To really evaluate stats, one would have to compare schedules more then classification. Many of the best teams in any classification/conference seek out the best competition they can to help prepare them for playoff time. A 4-A school that plays the likes of "St Mary's School for the Blind" five or six times has stats that are just as bogus as a 1-A or 2-A team that comes from what may be perceived as a weak conference

It's kind of like college football. To level things out they use the "RPI" to rank the teams. Until there is a similar type rating system for softball then any blanket statement like 4A is better (and has better players) then 1A/2A is always going to start a lively discussion. Remember the movie "Hoosiers"? If you don't like fiction then just ask a Michigan fan if they remember Appalachian State.

Stats are always going to be subjective at the high school level. That's why college recruiters don't put a lot of stock in them. What we really get from them is a way to see who is performing well during and after the season... and something for old guys to argue about!

Thank you and you are correct. I have been reading these boards for several years now and am well aware of the politics that occur here, but then again most people I talk to are also aware and take what is said here with a grain of salt. But when the truth is so obvious....I guess it is a good think that I'm not out to win the pageant.
