    .....calculation....(H + BB + HBP)/(AB + BB + HBP + SAC) = OBP.

    When reaching on an error or a fielders choice do not have anything to do with OBP, why would a SAC go against a batters OB%?

    ....neither is a BB or HBP! Hey pal, hope you and yours are doing well, now the nitty gritty, why is a SAC "negative" in the OBP stat?
    Google OBP.
    I can understand or follow simple reasoning of OBP with regards to an FC, and I'm a little perked up about not including errors in the positive side of the mix, but I have a real problem with a SAC hurting a kids offensive stat page.

    havent googled yet Fish but I can understand why BB and HBP are included because when you are figuring OBP. It is the same really as having a hit for those AB's so you have to include the AB opposite the BB or HBP. The logic in giving credit being that the batter has some ability to control the walk or being hit by the pitch.

    Without looking it up I still cannot resolve in my mind why a SAC would count as an AB in the OBP formula....

    I heard there was a rule change many years ago that did take the SAC bunt out of the equation (SAC bunts do not hurt your OBP)...however, SAC flies do still hurt the OBP.

    OB% Calculation

    On-base percentage is calculated using this formula:

    OBP= H+BB+HBP / AB+BB+HBP+SacF

    where
    NOTE: Sacrifice flies were not counted as an official statistic until 1954. Before that time, all sacrifices were counted as sacrifice hits (SH), which included both sacrifice flies and bunts. Bunts (sacrifice hits since 1954), which would lower a batter's on-base percentage, are not included in the calculation for on-base percentage, as bunting is an offensive strategy – often dictated by the manager – the use of which does not necessarily reflect on the batter's ability and should not be used to penalize him. For calculations of OBP before 1954, or where sacrifice flies are not explicitly listed, the number of sacrifice flies should be assumed to be zero.

    Hope this helps.

    Sac Flies

    As already noted, sacrifice bunts do not count against the average, just sacrifice flies. Sac Flies count against the average because the batter already gains a positive stat by hitting a sacrifice fly and that is an an RBI.

    Suicide squeeze?

    So then wouldn't that also apply to a suicide squeeze if they throw the batter out at first? That is still considered a SAC bunt right? But she also got an RBI...
