Pet Peeves

After reading the post and replies about miss something, one person said he watches the coaches signals from the 3rd base coach. It brought out one of my pet peeve's.

Why do some coaches give signals to the batter when no one is on base?

 

Too much

an 0-2 fastball that sails over the catcher/umpire/batters head nowhere near anywhere the batter would consider swinging.

true, don't keep it too close where they will make contact, but don't GIVE AWAY a pitch completely.

i know some of ya'll will differ on that but thats just a pet peeve of mine.

 

Luis and Stretchy

I hate it when Luis and Stretchy try to pick up hot moms!

 

That reminds me about something that cracks me up. It's the parent in the stand that has 'lil johnny batting and a pitch you described happens....then she yells at the top of her lungs, "Good eye, Johnny!!!!!!"

 

Jealousy is never good thing

 

One of my big baseball pet peeves is fairly common. Say a runner is on first and gets picked off....then some number of pitches later the batter hits a triple. Someone will always say, "If Bobby hadn't got picked off he would have scored on that triple". My strong contention is: We will never know if the batter would have hit the triple if Bobby hadn't got picked off, and here's why:

• The pitcher has a different mindset
• The catcher is calling a different game with no runners on base
• The pitcher is throwing from the windup, not the stretch
• The hitter has a different objective possibly
• The moment and the emotion is different....maybe the pitcher was clinging to a one run lead and was very anxious about the situation and later with the bases empty he was a little more free-wheeling and attacking the batter diffferently

Bottom line: We will never know what would have happened if something else had not happened first in a chain of events...in baseball and in life. The guy that hit the triple may have hit his first homerun, may have struck out trying to hit a homerun, may have hit a triple elsewhere (but not that triple that landed on that blade of grass), may have gotten beaned and never played again....but to say he would have scored on that triple 8 pitches later is ludicrous. If you want to hear this happen sooner than later, tune in to Fox Baseball and catch Tim McCarver behind the mike...it won't take long for him to trot this one out.
