I know there are individual pitchers who have the ability to dominate ,but from my observations overall......Early on in the season there seems to be an ad to the pitchers. As the season progresses the hitters steadily improve and the advantage goes more and more to the hitters.

Why is there such resistance to using wood bats? It certainly can't be because of the weight or the $$$. It's just a matter of learning the correct way to swing a wood bat.

If safety is the issue (which I strongly believe it is), then wood bats are the way to go. In my opinion, the super, cyber, synthetic bats make a mockery of the sport. It's bats on steroids....and an armed weapon

What are the stats of pitcher injuries vs number of total balls pitched?

No doubt the injury is potentially deadly but I would bet there is more danger driving to the game than in standing on the mound on a ratio of injury/activity basis. If I could limit an activity where her life or safety was in danger, it would be driving a car.

I am not trying to diminish the danger, just trying to understand it and put it in perspective. My DD pitches in college and trust me I think about it.

this is true.. there is usually a terrible accident every season at the HS or college level with a pitcher. In FP we have a larger projectile at a closer distance. I have cringed too many times at close calls in my years watching this sport.

I would like to see wood bats experimented with... maybe required for non-conference games. I dont know how else to try them out.

Are they that much harder to get around?

No, not at all. You can get them made for your requirements. It will never go to wood bats unless the NCHSAA forbids the use of metal. As long as the new kryptonite bats are in existence and are allowed to be used, wood bats will be passe.

If you want to wear one fine but don't make it mandatory.

I agree! The wooden bats would also level the playing field. And there would probably be enough broken bats to keep the retailers happy.

    Check this out TBR.....

....I'm a firm believer of facemasks for batters and 3b and pitchers IF they choose to wear them.
No joke on this gig......my DD hit a ball between 1st and 2nd that the 1b made the play and of course the 2b covered 1st properly. Well, BAM!, my DD and the 2b went head to head at 1st, it sounded like a linebacker roughing up a wide receiver coming across the middle!
The result was that the facemask was driven into my kids mouth.
Yep, she had braces, and for the first time and I hope the last I experienced the nightmare of seeing braces stuck into a kids lips.
Yes injuries are part of all sports, but if the powers that be have the nutter butters to force or mandate or require the use of protective gear such as a facemask, then they better DAMN well have those devices fullproof, otherwise, they better have a slew of lawyers in their corner.
BTW, my DD had to sit out for a month while her teeth geared back to strength.
Next tournament was in Richmond, no BS, true story, we were batting, she ended up on 3rd, and the next batter screamed one down the 3b line that hit my kid square in the facemask!
It was a long drive back to Raleigh that Sunday night, and all I remember is how nice it was to see her safely sleeping in the passenger seat.
    Don't be stupid, be safe.

For the love of the game...

No mask? No pitching screen? If I ever hear your voice at a higher pitch I will not have to ask.
