Agree, 100% ... with one caviat - why not teach your "pitcher" to call a game. Catchers put down signs as suggestions, but I would always want my pitcher to have the final word...and with that, accountability.

At the college level, especially in conference games when you have developed a "book" on most hitters, it's a little more understandable for coaches to become involved, because they may be positioning defense according to how they're gonna pitch a kid. Still, if done correctly, this can be done in pre-game meetings.

Still...personally I think most coaches call pitches because it's fun for them and makes them feel like they are part of the game. And it is fun ... just counter-productive, imho.

We had an umpire last night that took forever to call whether the pitch was a ball or a strike. There was about 6 times that the count was 3 balls, 0 or 1 strike & the pitch was delivered. Umpire doesn't make the call. Batters throw down their bat & start toward 1st. About 12-14 feet up the line the umpire decides to make the strike call. Very, very, slow-motion decision-making.

I've talked to Stretchy about this, but with his infected eye, he said it's hard to see the pitch, so he flips the coin...sometimes that takes some time.

    Houston.......we have a problem

I can't help but wonder how Mitchell became such a great ballplayer and how Karl knows so much about NC baseball teams, if he spent all his time growing up playing with his rocket.................very interesting!!!

    Now thats a good idea.

I just guess. "Was it a ball or a strike? Where they out or safe?" From now on I'll just flip for it. Will slow the game down a bit but oh well.

Nah. I will just call it as I see it.
