    It would be wrong!!!!!

Overall record alone can't be a determining factor in who makes it to the playoffs. Is fair it for a 1A/2A/3A school that plays schools in higher classifactions (not necessarily by choice either) and lose those games to not make the playoffs because their winning pct. was under .500?

Why is this extra game such a hassle for the higher seeded team anyway?? They're playing at home!!!!!! Plus it gives teams from strong conferences with not so great conference records a chance to play higher seeded teams from other conferences.

Now maybe a 3-13 team shouldn't make the playoffs, but would you be willing to tell the girls of that team "Don't even bother showing up, you don't have a chance". In my book, as long as there is a game to be played, you have a chance.

No system is going to be perfect, why bash a system that let's the games be played and that determines who advances.

    conference strength thought

The first round of tri 8 and Greater Neuse games were good games. Two competitive conferences. For example, I think Athens Drive a #5 seed gave Garner all they wanted (Garner won 3-2). Fuquay #1 in tri 8 beat Holly Springs #4 in the GN 1-0, Apex #2 tri8 beat Southeast Raleigh#3 in the GN 2-1 and Middle Creek#3 in tri 8 lost to West Johnston #2 in GN by a 3-2 score. Some conferences are loaded up!

They may have had close games, but the tops seeds all still won. Great points on both sides.

Overall in the 4A division: out of 32 teams advancing, 6 are 3 seeds or lower. 2 of those lower seeds that won played teams that were also 3 seeds or lower.

Congratulations on your win. Proof that all those ranking polls aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Anything can happen.

Ok so now you're telling teams to schedule a weak non-conference schedule. This would take all those big early season matchups out. ND vs. AC...nah!..North Moore vs. East Surry..who needs it!....Butler vs. CC...what's the point....now before you say that if they were "real" teams and would continue to play those teams..you may be right to begin with. But eventually those sure 3 and 4 seeds would load up on weak non-conference and those "good" teams would have to do the same just to keep up. I am NOT PC but i like a good ole upset of a "good" team and the only way you have upsets is to have underdogs.

Good examples!! Those games were decided on the field; exactly where they should be decided!

You can use numbers any way one chooses, it the case is made that #1 seeds win the state championship, well then, lets just have the the #1 seed out of each region only play, that way in two games we could have a state champ.. then look at all the money that could be saved...

    NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off, I hope people keep this a respectful discussion.

How about this: the regular season conference champion makes the state playoffs, plus the winner of the conference tournament that excludes the regular season champ. I don't know if there is an even number of conferences to make it work, but just a thought.

It's just my opinion that the state tournament shouldn't be about including as many teams as possible. I'm all for teams playing as much as possible during the regular season and being about to get in 30 games, but to me, the state tournament should be about rewarding the teams that are successful within their own conference. I feel the same way about every high school sport.

Dropping the number of teams to 32 would be good but it will not fix the problem. Slpit conferences are the problem and the majority of conferences are split now. You could have one class win the conference and get the number one seed and the second seed from that same class in that conference might finish last and if that conference gets 2 teams in the playoffs then you still have the same situation even though it would be less just because there are less teams. I think they should drop the teams to 32 also. It shows for the most part if you make it then you earned it, except for some exceptions. With 64 teams everyone gets in almost. That is not earning anything. Playoffs really don't start until the 2nd round , IN MOST CASES (I know I might get some flack over that). Football is the same way. I have seem teams with a 0-11 record make the playoffs. The greedy State is also a problem. Remember they get a good part of the gate taken up.
