This usually comes up from the travel ball crowd. Every year they are chomping at the bit to start TB and don't want interference from HS. Some would even like to see no HS softball. I can't imagine trying to play softball playoffs in November when days are short and nights are cold. Players play better when the weather is warm. You really need to be at the top of your game at the END of the season not the beginning.

Fall does work for middle school because their seasons are short and end before cold weather.

    Honest answer!

Cheeze, you hit the nail on the head when you said "it ain't gonna happen." It has been discussed by the NCSCA in Annual meetings, District meetings, and impromptu meetings out by the dugout. From what I have gathered, most High School coaches (not all) are comfortable with the format of Baseball and Softball being played in the Spring and do not want to see it changed. There would need to be a big push from our Association just to see what the interest would be across the State. I will ask that our next opinion poll on the website be about this issue. It would be interesting to see what the results of that poll would show. I don't think the NCHSAA would budge the least bit unless there was a major push to change.

    Would Be A Great Move

From a TB perspective, HS ball in the fall would be a great move. GA holds many of their ASA regional qualifiers in the spring when other states in our region are playing HS ball and haven't even had a 16U or 18U practice. This gives GA a tremendous advantage over the other states in our region NC, SC, and TN to qualify for the ASA Nationals.

But with that said, I doubt there are too many HS coaches who are very concerned about ASA qualifiers, so I don't see the softball season ever moving to fall. The only reason I think it would ever be done would be if it could be shown to mean more $$$$ to the schools and the state. Just my thoughts.

Pop what if the coaches association as a group endorsed the move then sanctioned a study to determine the cost effectiveness and savings of such a move?

I am not in the loop on what has transpired prior but in the current economic environment if money can be saved the idea could gain some traction. If they are talking cutting back on JV and MS sports to save this is something that is a lot less painful and controversial to realize the same goal.
