2009 NC Select Team Announced

Tanner Merritt graduates from Greenville Rose at 8:00 PM on June 12th. It may make it hard for him to be in Myrtle Beach the next day, not impossible but hard.

 

Vacation Plans

Nick is actually out of town on vacation and not available... I know you guys will find it hard to believe, but, he actually wanted to stay home or leave his vacation to drive the 6+ hours to attend if selected...

And the scary part is, I was willing to let him but his mother stepped in and put a halt to that in a hurry!!

Like Nick said, it was a temendous honor to be invited and would have been a privilege to have played with the talent that is on this team.

Speaking for him, I know he is sorry he didn't get the opportunity but the team will represent NC very well!

Just for everyones info you can pretty much expect that if there is someone you really felt should be on the team they probably were unavailable.

For Petes Sake

just for once can we congratulate the guys that did make it? Can we leave out all the conspiracy theorys and this kid should have , this kid got screwed etc? Every time something like this is announced the thread immediately turns into a pissing contest about who should have over who did and who got left off instead of focusing on who did make it and the actual event.

This year is no different from last year or the year before. Some can attend that are invited. Some have to decline for many reasons and they are not all going to come on here and explain why.

And before you say anything about this post just go back and read every thread about - State Games - All Conf selections - All State - etc. It never fails. So maybe we need to have two different threads on these topics. One for the people that want to congratulate the guys and talk about the positives and another for the people that want to bitch and moan every frickin time one of these threads pop up.

Congrats to all the kids that will represent NC. Have a great time and make us proud.

By no means was I putting down any of the players who didn't make the team as being unworthy, but I agree with what Coach said about how we should celebrate the players who will be participating, rather than debating who should be going in their place.

 

I was going to post this even before I read 27's request...

Congrats to all those guys. Let the good time's roll and good luck in college (or down on the farm).

 

I must totally miss the point of message board. I thought it was to inform and discuss, and maybe throw in a little harmless trash talking from time to time. Everybody here has the highest praise for every guy that does great things in High School sports, otherwise we wouldn't be on here reading about it. If the threads were filled with post after post of "Congratulations, you guys are great" it would get boring in a hurry.

I think if everybody would do as you say, and go back and read every other thread, what they would find is that everytime somebody offers an opinion on an "all-star" team, somebody else will make a post saying you shouldn't mention guys that aren't on it and you should just be complimentary towards the guys that are.

If there were 2 threads, one for the complaining posts and one for the congrats posts, which one would yours fall into Coach 27?

 

I have no problem with a little friendly trash talking back and forth, but the "friendly" part of that tends to get out of hand quickly on a message board where people's identities are anonymous and they're behind a computer screen.

Plus, TBR is a different type of board. There are plenty of boards where arguing back and forth is tolerated more, but TBR has a lot friendlier atmosphere and is more oriented towards getting information moreso than debating things.

I would argue that it takes away from the accomplishment of the folks who did make the team, if others come on and talk about who should have made it over them. This thread in particular is not so bad, but there's been lots of similar threads to this one over the years that evolve into major debates, and I think Coach 27 is referring to those and doesn't want this one to escalate.

The bottom line is, there's lots of great players in NC. About 20 of them were chosen for this team and that's a huge honor.
