In the 3rd round of the state playoffs, we had several note-worthy home-runs!
Chase McDonald of Greenville Rose: Had 2 home runs, one of which was a two-run shot in the bottom of the sixth to rally Rose past Laney, 4-2!

Antwan Thorpe of Oxford Webb: Hits 2-run walk-off homer in bottom of 8th, in Webb's 8-6 victory over South Granville! Thorpe also hit a home run in sixth inning to tie the game!

Walker Gourley of Eastern Wayne: Hits walk-off homer in the bottom of the eighth, in Eastern Wayne's 4-3 victory over South Central!

Loren Jones of Murphy: Hits walk-off 2-run shot in bottom of 8th to send Murphy past Polk County, 3-1 and into a 4th round showdown with Cherryville. It was Jone's 1st-ever home run!

Mat Batts of Mount Tabor: smacked a game-winning, 2-run homer, in the bottom of the 6th to lead Mount Tabor past NW Guilford 11-10!

    I was at the

South Granville - Oxford Webb game and Thorpe had a night of all nights in that one. In the 5th with his team trailing by 3 runs he hits a towering shot to left center field and is diving into 3rd when for a triple when the throw gets away into the dugout and he is awarded home plate for a run. Then in the 6th with his team down by 2 he hits a bomb to rcf to tie the game. In the 8th with two outs and one man on he hits a walk off home run to lcf for the win.

The kid is all conference in baseball basketball and football. He is a tremendous athlete who can absolutely fly. And in this game he put his team on his back and carried them to the fourth round of the playoffs. He had a night he will always remember and a night the South Granville fans will never forget.

No doubt he'll ever forget that and THorpe will be a legend at that school for years to come... "Remember back in 2009 when that boy Thorpe..."

A one man wrecking crew! Figure he'll see anything to hit the next game? LOL

    Interesting question, Diesel:

Thorpe & the rest of his Webb teammates must now face Tyler Joyner of Northern Nash, fully rested from last Tuesday. I saw alot of batters that didn't see his pitches this year. They only heard the sound of the catchers mitt after the ball passed. Webb has a tough assignment!

    No doubt

a very tough task for the Warriors. But they play the game for a reason. Its not decided till someone has actually won it on the field. Webb will show up. Should be a great game. I will have a front row seat you can bet on that.

    No Doubt: Part 2

That is going to be a great game to watch! More heroics are sure to come. Webb has home field, which is important. Joyner has 21 strikeouts, & has only given up 6 hits in his 2 playoff appearances, but this may be his biggest challenge as well. Webb has some good hitters! Webb's Thorpe & Northern's Tyler Clark are key batsmen in this game! I'll be at the West Brunswick/Eastern Wayne game, which will be another classic to watch.:SCA+HL:

I can't see Joyner backing away from no one! One of my buddies said swing hard in case you hit it; I just hope we'll be able to see it. Like Coach 27 said, that's why you play the game. Some of Thorpe's accomplishments this year: Conference player of year in FB '07 and '08 Will start for East in the East-West game at QB. Regional MVP in basketball this year. (Not sure how many schools and conferences are involved in this) Now all this for him in baseball. Oh, yeah, was also homecoming king. A true 3 sport athlete and a good person and teammate as well.

    Check out Chase's 2 dingers....

....During the 2nd homer you can hear me screaming like a freakin' woman in the background (hey, I was excited):

I will add this about Chase. He is a big, strong guy which automatically makes you think power hitter. However he is more than a power hitter, he is a hitter who happens to have power. The kid can do more than just hit home runs, he can hit. I think for the season he only has about five strikeouts from what my son has told me so he makes contact. He has an exciting future ahead of him and I know the ole man is proud. Heck, I have been watching Chase play since he was nine so I am proud too.
