....Hey, I'm not trying to be funny, but I can tell you one advantage that these kids have, ....is to have folks like us in TBR discuss what we see "them" doing. Bam! What they're doing is pitching, and right mechanics or illegal or not, these kids are now being seen by everybody who goes to this thread. Including college coaches.
In the paper today, there was an article about early committments by kids in 7th, 8th grades. The father said to the reporter, "hey pal, whether my kids goes to that school when its time to sign is way down the road, and I have no idea if he will change his mind along the way, what I do know is that every coach in America now knows my kids name now"
    He's got a point folks.
Oh well, something to think about.
    Happy Memorial Day!

Completly disagree with your assessment and I still stand firm on no advantage gained

Judging from the first picture wouldn't you agree her back foot is going to touch down about 4 or 5 feet in front of the rubber?

If there was no advantage why did the experts make it illegal?

I'm not a pitching instructor so I definitely could be wrong (usually). Maybe wndmllr could weigh in on this.

I think 3-4' is extremely exaggerated. What make you think whoever put the rule in place is an expert?

I'm not a pitching instructor either but my dd is a pitcher and I can tell you after catching for her and she has done similar things she did again any speed. I do agree that it's an illegal pitch but no advantage gained

Explain why you are so adamant that there is no advantage.

I'll chime in here since i've talked about this before. There is no advantage to "leaping" actually there is an disadvantage. Because the back foot is off the ground the pitcher has completely lost the backside of her body. Also if you are off the ground that means you have lept UP not OUT and thus lose that extra momentum. Now if the pitcher's back foot lands before the pitch is thrown then that is a "replant" and is an advantage. Can't tell for sure but it looks like most of those young ladies would let go of the ball before they land so it is actually a disadvantage. JMO

What makes me think an expert put the rule in place? Because I'm the only one I'm aware of who isn't an expert and I know I didn't put it in place.

Yes sir, I will agree that you are not an expert but neither am I. What I am sure of is the negative effects of bad habits like leaping can create on a pitcher. I know this first hand. My dd started the leaping thing. It had an effect on her velocity and control. It's a hard habit to break if you don't address it when they start doing it.
