George Mason is no push over either in that regional. South Carolina is going to have their hands full with them. They have two very solid hitters in the 3 and 4 spot. 3 hitter dropped 20 bombs last year and I think he hit around that amount again this year.

Chase has probably played his way into making some money here real soon.

Elon recruits everywhere...and this is not meant as a knock to the NON-NC guys on the roster (cause I know most of them, and they are great guys and players) but its nice to see these NC boy stepping it up and doing well.

Parents of NC players - I would like to add my thoughts about Elon...take it for what you feel its worth. It is a mid-major. They are not UNC, and don't claim to be. The staff has done a tremendous job finding the pieces of thier puzzle, and making the players better once they get to campus. They have done this over the years, and its now (within the last 4) starting to show on the "big stage" somewhat. Players and parents, please understand however, that Elon is not a place that as a parent or player here in NC, you should feel is your "back-up" plan or your "gimme" option if the "big boys" don't come calling. This is not directed to anyone in partiucular, and definitley not directed to any comment on this board. This mainly stems form comments and thoughts by some folks....Thinking, "well, he isnt UNC, or South Carolina or Clemson good...but he could play at an Elon or UNCW or etc" Don't get me wrong...there are differences in major conference players(ACC, SEC, etc) and mid-major players (SoCon, CAA, etc) But you still have to be a "player" to play at these places, as well as any other program here in NC (becasue we have some good ones - so be proud) where the Coach feeds his family and pays the mortagage based upon the number of wins he posts at his repective institution of higher learning. Players, it is a different game at the next level.

I'd like to add my agreement to JTbaseball's post.

In particular, I'd single out (1) "...Elon is not a place that as a parent or player here in NC, you should feel is your "back-up" plan or your "gimme" option if the "big boys" don't come calling..." and (2) "Players, it is a different game at the next level."

My recollection is that approximately 10% of all high school baseball players go on to play Division I baseball. If you stop and consider that statistic for a moment, you'll begin to appreciate what JTbaseball is saying.

In my opinion, the magnitude of the step between high school baseball (even at the highest level) and Division I baseball is virtually impossible to exaggerate.

By the way, I think it's also true that approximately 10% of Division I baseball players are drafted into professional baseball. For that reason, THAT'S a very different game, as well. When I hear a college baseball fan assert that a "Top 10" Division I college baseball team plays at approximately the level of a professional AA team, I'm afraid I have to laugh. It's not even close.

South Carolina nor ECU will have a problem with George Mason. THey were only a cinderella once in the NCAA Basketball tournament, and no sleeper will prevail in this regional. Good luck Cocks and Pirates, thrash the Patriots who don't belong there anyway.:SmokinBanana:

But this is baseball not basketball and they can be out talented and out matched all day but just once they can be better than anyone and that can happen in a tournament type of play. I saw George Mason with my own two eyes this year and they are legit. They were in the top 25 for most of the year.

I agree they are forces to be reckon with but just remember that a #4 seed won the whole thing last year so you can't really count anyone out

Just ask N C State how good Elon is.

Mike Kennedy has done a great job at Elon. Question is, will he stay there? After talking with teh ACC offices and staff at Wake, his name is being kicked around over there. Wellman (Wake AD) loves his baseball. He was the driving force to move the ACC tourney to Myrtle Beach.
