Are you talking about footwork hurdles, or TRACK hurdles?

My DD is just recovering from a bicep injury from pitching. She has been on the bench besides hitting from the left for about 8 weeks. She has a great pitching coach, but never really did any stretching or conditioning. She was just released form the ortho dr. and he put it like this. You go to the dentist 2x's per year, but the dentist expects you to brush every day, same thing with working out those muscles, or she can expect to get in the same shape again. I have spent $1000 on copays to get her back to health and she darn well do what he says. We start working out at APC next week. They have a good strengthing and speed program that they run 5 days per week, and you can bet she will be there at least 2-3 times per week. She got to pitch 2 innings last night (wants her limited to 30 pitches in a game and then work up from there). From not having picked up a ball in 8 weeks, I am proud to say she threw 26 pitches ( 18 strikes, and 8 balls)

This is going to settlle it...

Ok...you are correct. Sorry for the confusion, but Phreak made me realize I was thinking of track hurdles and not footwork hurdles...LOL! The top player I was referring to (that got you to post) who injured her ACL was Phreaks girl, on a track hurdle on a cement floor (right Phreak?) BUT.....I got to thinking about what you said about hurdles and ask my DD about it and she said YES. She has done them with her strength and conditioning coach. But not JUMPING them. NEVER a high jump. Always a manuever in, out, around, but NEVER over. The team my DD tore her ACL had her going over them...SIDEWAYS. Here's another for you.....when we were at DUKE one day for physical therapy I was watching this guy working with the high school girl down on Wallace Wade Stadium track. Turns out she was a TENNIS player. He had her doing ALL THIS STUFF in, out, around, all this incredible footwork around hurdles. I had never seen it before. It was excellent. You are right...thanks for reminding me. I had completely forgotten about it. FYI - I don't bash old coaches and orgainzations we played for. We are on good terms with all of them.....BUT to get back to the original point of this thread...education and proper conditioning go a long way to prevent injuries, and as long as a DD can do it, let her do it until she tells you otherwise. They are all different. Hopes this helps.

    ?

I don't think anyone uses track hurdles in softball. Anywhere from 12-16 inches high for foorwork agility depending on what you are working on. Although I would like to have a team that could stand and explode over a track hurdle with both feet starting on the ground. Thats Athletic!

    ask the coach

Ha..yeah, not too many track hurdles in softball. That WOULD be athletic...LOL! Good idea though. Track Hurdles. Have to ask DD's strength and conditioning coach about it.

No hurdles involved with girl I was talking about. Just a running triple jump on cement I believe. It possibly could have been a gym floor but I don't think so. Tore her acl, mcl, meniscus.

I completely Agree!!! I always dreaded Sunday if we were in the losers bracket because it meant not coming out of the dugout until we lost out of the tournament. I remember playing 5,6,7 games in a row to try and win a peice of plastic. I loved it when we started playing the showcase's. 2 games a day, you know what time you play and who you play. This format is best suited to prepare players for college. I would like to see more age groups go to something like this. If they feel the need to "Crown a Winner" then setup a winner of each pool or something like that. My DD is a pitcher and I watched her get worn down this year in high school ball. Her coach would not even pull her when we run ruled teams and we did that about 6-8 times. She was also rode hard at a tournament 2 years ago. We played 11 games in 4 days and she pitched all by 3 games. Pitches have to throw so much between games, then pitch every game it is no wonder they get run down, burned out, injured. Proper technic is criticial also to a pitcher.
