It's fair to say that EVERYONE has hit, I don't remember them all. Also I got to yesterday's game late - missed the first 10 runs, was told GH's Adam Boghosian had a big HR. In today's game, would have to say GH led the way, Eric Brady had 3 doubles, Grant Shambley had 3 hits (I think) and Boghosian also had a couple of bloop singles (maybe 3 of them). For Cary, Percy Evans had a rip double and few other hits in both games, and I remember Hunter Carr having a few hits, plus Rhino's HR and a think a single yesterday. Those are the hits which stand out, but there were others which I'm just not remembering or wasn't there to see.

The pitching needs to improve as far as giving up walks goes, but there is plenty of velocity out there. The defense is solid, so that will not be an issue this year. To me looks like good team chemistry exists for only 2 games together, could be a good year if the pitching comes around and the hitting keeps up.

    Garner vs. Randolph County

Randolph County went up 1-0 on a solo homer in the first and after the score was tied at 3, Garner scored six runs in the 4th including a Grand Slam by Phillip Cotten.

Post 232 was up 11-3 in the top of the ninth and let Post 45 score five runs, and Randolph County had the tying run at the plate but Garner held on for the 11-8 win.

Garner is now 4-2 on the season as plays Burlington at home tomorrow at noon in the Area 1/Area 3 Challenge.

Other games tomorrow: Cary vs. Edenton at 3:30 and Durham vs. Randolph County at 7. All games at Garner High School

    Burlington 9
    Durham 3

Durham played well except for the top of the 2nd when 7 runs came across on 4 errors. Disappointing to put ourselves in such a hole so early in the game. Durham falls to 2-1 on the season.

    Saturday, 5/30
    Edenton 8
    Durham 6

Again it was a story of giving away runs for Durham as we kicked the ball around defensively, and not getting timely hits living numerous runners on base. Season is still young, but we've got to start playing together. Durham falls to 2-2 on the season.

Next game is today at 7pm vs Randolph County at Garner High School.

    Post 1 vs. Post 13

    CBSCONSULT,
I thank you for the positive comments on my son. I’m no different than any other parent in that we always like to hear favorable feedback on our kids. Again, thanks. In his last 2 seasons at Wilson Fike, he threw 80 + innings both years and by the time Legion started, he was worn out. This past year at Barton (freshman), he threw only about 20 innings in relief and if he was ever considered to be fresh, it’s now! He gained about 25 pounds this past year and is just getting comfortable with the extra weight. I also want to thank you for recognizing and stating the unearned run. Love the local paper, but they kill me sometimes with their interpretation of an earned run vs. unearned run, hit vs. error, etc. Anyway, thanks!

Historically, Wilson Post 13 has always had average to above average pitching, but very good hitting. This may be the first year it’s the opposite. I’ve seen some of our players put up some impressive high school numbers and 2 of the players in our line up this past Friday were college kids (Barton & Lenoir CC). So, never mind the six walks, your son was effective enough to hold us to one run. Hats off to him!
Post 13s offense is surprisingly abysmal! Or as my man Walston states "AWOL"! We just can’t figure it out. Maybe it is the pitching or simply lacking a plan at the plate. A good friend of mine who’s initials are Miller Gibbons advises, " boys, things are going to get better". Being the Negative Nancy that I am sometimes unfairly labeled by my family, I will agree with my good friend with one caveat. Yes, "things are going to get better, because they could not possibly get much worse"! I wish Jacob Davis (ECU - red shirt) was not too old to play this year!!! Now there's was a kid who loved the game and could flat out hit!

So, here’s a message to Wilson Post 13 PLAYERS (not coaches as I have personally watched them provide excellent hitting and of course pitching instruction), PLAYERS, I’m calling you out, live up to your billing, show some grit, heart, soul, and love for the game, and show us Post 13 fans you can play solid, fundamentally sound, baseball!!!! Stop blaming others for your shortcomings. Man up, and play ball! Don’t look back when you are my age and wish you had given it a better effort!

P.S. Got to admit, not much better than watching a Legion game at Historic Fleming Stadium!!!

    Cary over Edenton 4-2

Cary goes 3-0 in the Area I vs Area III challenge (only undefeated team in the 3 day event).

I wasn't at the game, but heard Cary starter Adam Boghosian pitched 5 shutout innings and Eric Brady hit a first inning HR. The bats must have cooled, but the pitching picked up the slack.

When did Edenton move to Area III?

    Good Question ?

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself - Garner Post 232 was the host of the 3 day event, doesn't seem that Edenton would be in the same area as Burlington and Randolph County - were they just a fillin team or are they actually in Area III ???

    Kinston 2, Wilson 0

Wilson scratches out just five singles and starts 0-3 for the first time since 1998. Post 13 has managed 5 runs combined in its first three games – its lowest offensive output to start a season on record.

Appreciate the history lession, but give the other team their due. Michael Wetherington pitched a complete game (9 innings) for Kinston. He walked only 3 batters & only faced 6 over the minimum! Great job by him! Wilson's pitching, again, was good enough to win most games. It's early & the bats will come alive for Post 13.
