Patton is a great group of kids. They have worked hard and are very deserving of the title. This is actually Coach Brandon Scott's third year as a head coach as he coached this same group at Freedom HS as an interim Head Coach, after the coach resigned in 2007. Of that group,Tallent, Lawson, Attaway, Speiss, Fines, started as freshmen. Fines and Spiess made ALL Conference NW4A in 07. Washington was a Soph and started in CF while Newton saw meaningful action as well.
Coach Scott did a terrific job that year and it appeared Freedom was finally going to have a baseball program. But the new school came on line and the rest is history
Last season at Patton, as Soph's and Jrs, they competed and made the playoffs but were still very young. This year they have broken through and they will be tough again next year as Senoirs and Nick Chapman will be a Jr.

My point is this, It is not a 2 year program. The school may be 2 years old but this group of players commited themselves to excellence prior to enrolling at Freedom in 2007 and before ground was ever broken at Patton.
They have met and exceeded the huge expectations that were made because of their early success and are poised for greatness.
Best of Luck to all the Panthers this weekend

I'll be honest, I know absolutely nothing about either team.

But playing in Raleigh, I may swing by and see them before 4A hits the field.

Anyone got anything on them? I couldn't even tell you where either school is located.

McMichael is in Mayodan (North of Greensboro)

    Patton is in Morganton IIRC

I have seen McMichael and there are the team to beat, IMO. I saw them early in the season and predicted they would go far in the playoffs. They were the best team I'd seen all year, regardless of classification.

    Hughes is a beast.

Don't remember posting this thread but here's my take. ( I did post on another thread)
The only thing I know about Mayodan, NC is that one of the best basketball players I ever played against was a guy from Mayodan named Donnie Cardwell. If the McMicheal team has any of the characteristics that "The Kid" (Cardwell) had, they will be one tough out.
The Panthers are mentally tough and know how to win. Should be a good series.
Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend.

Joe Hughes from McMichael will be pitching at ECU next year. Played with him in showcase ball.

Other than that I don't know anything about either team. The only time I saw McMichael this year was when I was at Reagan watching SW Guilford play Reagan in softball. McMichael was playing Reagan up on the baseball field beside us and Reagan beat them pretty handily that night.....but that's baseball

Best of luck to McMichael this weekend.

    i was at that game..

Mc Micheal Gave up and the Pitcher was very hitable. If Patton is patient and wait on a fast ball they will do well.. maybe Mc Micheal had a really bad night..
